I bought a Ninja V last week to start shooting prores raw.

I am at complete loss with this product when it comes to normal use for video. I understand it needs to write legal tag prores 422 however it escapes me why the exposure tools are in such mess when you feed the ninja with a legal video signal

Waveform: works correctly 0-100%

False color: does not display red anymore it stops at orange

Zebra: they keep working to 105% clearly indicating a bug

My SWIT CM55C monitor costing less than half of the Ninja can manage the same things without problems and has even a switch to adjust input from legal to video range so all tools scale consistently

I cannot believe that such basic issues go on after years a product is released

Isn't the SWIT just a monitor or does it also record video like the Ninja V?

It is just a monitor.

Today I did some more debugging the Zebras are off 5% and when you monitor with full levels it displays up to 110% however the zebra still only get to 105% which is in fact 100% and therefore are even more off.

I found the following workarounds

1. Set the camera to legal output directly it eliminates the need for the Ninja to scale and use zebra at 105%. False colour however never turns red which is a bummer

2. If you shoot log and therefore you are outputting full levels set the ninja to legalise but then use a LUT for monitoring this means if you monitor native you have just to account for the 5% error and if you use the LUT it does what the LUT says

when you are in a situation where you provide full range but do not use the legalise nor a LUT you have a situation where the zebra 105% is in fact 95% so totally unreliable and the prores files are tagged incorrectly

Might be a silly question but have you made sure you're running the latest firmware?
