Hi everyone!

I'm wondering if someone has tested the combination in the title.

I own the XF200 and it's a great lens, even with his xf 1.4x tc.

But sometimes, i need more reach when i'm at the track. I talk with Jeff Carter, an X-Photographer that use this combination, and he said that works ok. But before spend my money, i'd like to receive more info, maybe some images to check the IQ and quality.

Thanks!

I thought it only works with the new 1.4x Teleconverter that comes with the lens?

Fuji calls it the "High-performance XF1.4X TC F2 WR teleconverter".

Ah yeah thanks, I also replied in the other thread lol. Must've forgotten or not have followed up :)

Ok, thanks for the info.

I've found a good deal for a used copy. I'm going to buy it, and try for myself.

Thanks!

Hey!

I recently purchased the 200mm F2 (what a lens!) and have tried it out with the 2xTC and it works fine for me too. I'm by no means an expert though, so I may be more easily satisfied than others.

Here are a few examples:

What I haven't managed to use properly (or use at all to be honest) is stacking two TCs with an extension tube in the middle.

I recently saw someone doing that (I could have sworn I had found the link to his website on this forum, but can't seem to find it anymore), and it seemed to work too!

To be precise, he had stacked in the following order: body --> x1.4 TC --> MCEX 16 extension tube --> x1.4 TC F2 --> lens.

I can't seem to be able to focus on anything at all when I try that combination.

If anyone else succeeded in doing so, I'd be curious to know how! Cheers! :-D

Interesting shots NiX82. They look OK at typical web page resolution, but I have to say, based on pixel-peeping these shots, both the contrast and sharpness appear noticeably poorer than the XF 100-400mm at the same (effective) focal length.

Quite honestly, I can't imagine that stacking TCs is going to produce acceptable images. Given the cost of the 200mm and having seen its stunning performance without a TC, I'm assuming using non-approved adapters is rather like buying a Ferrari and driving around with the handbrake on (I know, I know, which cars have a handbrake these days...)

Hi,

Congrats on the purchase! Thanks for the samples, they look pretty damn good considering you're using the 2x TC! If it's not too much to ask, could you upload a raw file or two?

I wouldn't do that if I were you. I doubt the 1.4x TC were ever meant to be stacked one ontop of each other. It's likely that there are some conflicting orders being sent between the two TCs, the extension tube and the lens.

Also note that by using the extension tube you lose infinity focus. If I'm not mistaken, with the 1.4x and 16mm extension tube attached, the lens won't focus further than 50 meters.
If anyone else succeeded in doing so, I'd be curious to know how! Cheers! :-D

Hi!

Thank you for your replies.

I'm happy to post the RAW files but it doesn't seem like the format is supported when I try to upload them here...

How should I proceed?

Hi,

Thanks for the effort! What I generally do is upload them to either my google drive/onedrive/dropbox and attach the link in the post.

Nice, the 200 f/2 is in every way a world class lens. While the 2X teleconverter will produce terrific images, there's still more IQ fall off than with the 1.4x TC.

For that reason, the 2x TC is often much maligned but I use it very well with the 100 - 400 zoom and with just a little bit of post work for sharpening, I find images produced using the 2x TC are excellent.

I couldn't agree more!

I was on the verge of selling all my gear to switch to GFX (the new GFX 100S and 80mm f1.7 are tempting!) but after trying out the GFX100 and 100-200mm (a.o.), I decided that it simply wasn't for me...

... so instead I purchased the XF 200mm f2!

Sure, it's expensive, yes it will hurt your shoulder and back to carry it around all day... but boy are the results pleasing!

Like I said in my first post, I'm everything BUT a pro, and the results of this lens, be it alone, or with the x1.4 TC f2 or even the x2 TC, have kept me a happy man indeed. :-)

I just hope I'll be able to use it abroad some day...
