Guess the Place #207

Here’s another, maybe easier.

YMCA of the Rockies, Estes Park?

I can't get a street view to confirm that.

That’s it. Good call.

Over to you.

Contrary to the theory given, I like to post photos from far from my (current) home. I have 4 continents to choose from.

Where are we now?

The palm trees are a new addition, and not on street view.

By the way, the flag helped a lot, which puts you in the right state. Then I guessed a National Park Lodge, the architecture has that feel. So "National Park Lodge Colorado" brings up a suspicious looking picture in Google image search (or did the first time I tried it).

If there's any writing in the picture that can be an instant give away on a search as well.

I shall have to scan my old film travel photos!

I haven't traveled much overseas since going digital.

We have both of those.

The foundation of this town was as one of a chain, and named for a festival.

Of the places in the chain, this one's named after a thing, most are named after people.

The structure on which we're standing was first built by the first postmaster of this town. This structure also hosts a festival of a style of transport which is also celebrated by the establishment in the foreground.

This town (some businesses in it) sued a different town in the same state over a trade mark dispute over the town's nickname. That nickname was also the title of a number 1 record. (That song also mentioned the method of transport from the previous clue.)

The largest employer in town has a mascot which is a yellow slug. To the left you'd see the oldest amusement park in the state.

Municipal Wharf, Santa Cruz, California? The amusement park being to the left had me confused for a little while :-)

You are correct, but your street view is 1 lamppost too far inland.

The palm trees and umbrellas are for pandemic dining, the parking spaces out front were converted to outdoor dining. Santa Cruz hadn't quite locked down when I took that in June.

Santa Cruz is one of the chain of missions built by Sanfriscans in "Alta California". Santa Cruz, "Holy Cross", named after the festival of the holy cross. Most of the other missions were named for Saints, and a couple of archangels.

Wikipedia notes the first wharf was built by a guy who was also the first postmaster in town.

It also notes an annual festival for "Woodies" (wood paneled station wagons), the building in the foreground is in fact "Woodies" restaurant, with a Woody theme.

Santa Cruz calls itself "Surf City", which was a number 1 hit for Jan and Dean in 1963, with the line "I bought a '30 Ford wagon and we call it a woodie". Huntington Beach further south tried to trademark itself "Surf City" and inconclusive legal actions followed.

The largest employer is the University of California, Santa Cruz, who's mascot is the Banana Slug. (Those familiar with the place are not surprised by this.)

And to the left is the Beach Bordwalk, the amusement park mentioned.

So, my last one was guessed in 6 minutes, so time for a more challenging one. If anyone (outside this country) can solve this without a sting of clues, I will be truly impressed :-)

I will require the street name, so I expect I'll have to be generous with clues eventually.

Clue 1: not around where I live :-)

Hardly luxury flats, are they? Reminds me of some of the apartment blocks we saw in Poland. This looks indeed like Europe, and maybe it is Poland - or Hungary, or any of the former Warsaw Pact countries.

Looks like a lot of places in London, but with various clues I'm guessing around 40° latitude, which is Madrid or Turkey (among others).
