Hi all,
I am a proud owner of a G3,420EX flash,wide converter,close-up lens and
an Epson Stylus 895 printer.
I am very happy with the results from the printer but it costs me a
fortune on ink and paper,so I am considering buying a Canon i850,
which because of its separate ink system should be cheaper to run.

What I'm not sure of is how the print quality will compare with the
Epson 895.

I posted a similar message in the printer forum, but got no response,
hope somebody here can help.

I was very happy with my 785 (although it was sloooow and very noisy) until I got a i850 (at the shop) and a i950 (at home). I don't believe there is any savings in ink, although for my catalogs with lots of blue water, I do change out the cyan cartridge more frequently.

Both Canon printers are spot on for color, verrry fast, verrry quiet, whereas the Epson compared heavy on magenta. I can color proof my CYMK postcard submissions to Modern postcard with the Canon - it is spot on (not the Epson).

The i850 is about the same quality, the i950 is noticeably better. I have a Mac with OS10 and the Canon printers are quite elegant, whereas the Epson a bit clumsy.

--I can recommend the Canon i950 very cheap at this time i think Costco have them for $224 I also have the HP 7550 that is very nice and I can recommend that printer to. The i950 is very fast and what I have read it is a better choice over the i850. I use the HP all the time and I put the i950 in my daughters room.

Thanks for the comments,
I think I'll save up a bit longer for the i950.
Here in England the i950 costs about £270, but the i850
costs about £150.

Don't assume a separate ink tank system is cheaper to run. It all depends on your color useage and the amout of ink in each cartridge. A single multicolored cartridge with lots of ink at a lower price could be a better deal than individual miniscule sized cartridges where the sum of the per cartridge prices are greater than the single multicolored cartridge.
