This northern hawk owl has been a delight to see and photograph. Winter is off to a mild start so getting outdoors is a little more pleasant. But I would go out for these northern owls even if it was -30*C windchill which I have done in past winters.

Photographed in Ottawa and area this January. I understand there are several of these owls in and near Ottawa.

Recently had my old (2004) Canon 100-400L IS I lens optically adjusted by Canon and it seems to be focusing just fine. The 7D MK2 is also working well since I got it back in fall 2014. Using it for 6+ years now.

Taken with 7D MK2 and 100-400L IS original. Thanks for looking.

that is one sharp bird portrait!
Thanks. It was a sunny day with blue skies. My 100-400L IS sat unused on the shelf for many years, maybe 8+ years. I had it adjusted by Canon and it works just fine now. I almost sold it a few years back but didn't. What is old is new again.

how could you stand your 100400 sitting on the shelf for that long? :-D my 100400 II is fused on my camera and gets used almost everyday when it is not snowing or not too co;d out there. the canon 100-400 II is incredibly versatile due to its close MFD and the fact that it is crazy sharp and has a gorgeous bokeh, everything that one wants! hope you enjoy using your 100400, again!

I didn't realize how much I missed it until I started using it again. The 100-400 sat on the shelf because I was using the 70-200 2.8L + 1.4x and 400 5.6L.

I use the 100-400 in good light mostly.

I like the 70-200 2.8L for flexibility with low light. 400 5.6L for reach. But the 100-400L is the most versatile. I know how sharp version 2 is but I have version 1. It gets the job done :-)

Thanks for creating, and sharing, your wonderful images,
Thanks for your kind words. Wildife photography gets me outdoors. It's a February Saturday morning here in Eastern Ontario, Canada with -27 windchill this morning. Hope to head out to photograph some owls again. Staying mostly in my car but definitely bundling up before I step out of the car.

My iPhone battery goes dead in this cold. But I just ordered a Phoozy from Amazon and this is the PERFECT weekend to test if it works. Apparently it's based on tech used by NASA.
