Anyone else waiting on backlogged lenses or cameras ? Just curious.

It's puzzling to me that a Canon lens (RF 85mm F2 IS STM ) has been on backorder for months. I ordered mine in the first week of September.

There are a few places that say they have it, but some are > than retail, some say it's to be delivered several weeks out (which is sort of the same as saying that they don't have it in stock), and some sites I don't want to do business with, anyways.

Because the overall trend in the camera industry hasn't been good for 2020, I am uncritically wondering why such a delay ? Are there other manufacturers that are likewise affected with delivery delays ?

Go look at the Nikon forums. It is common for newly introduced products. The Nikon 500mm F/5.6 PF lens was on backorder for about 2 years.

Some find they can get orders filled faster if they skip the national dealers like B&H and search out smaller, local shops.

No, but I am waiting on Kodak D-76 developer... out of stock until January, apparently.

In stock at Amazon, shipped & sold by Procam, $699.99 . Procam also lists it on their website "Limited Stock - Order Soon".

I've never purchased from them.

Cheers,

Mix your own. Not exactly rocket science. Plus with a small stock of chemicals you can make which ever developer you want and not what the shops feel like selling.

Many things are either out of stock or in limited stock. If I go to the local official Canon website you can't even order a R5. All you can do is sign up to be notified when it'll be available.

The largest chain shops shop hasn't had any treadmills since March.

Ikea has items , colours etc out of stock for months.

The car companies have limited selection.

Why? All it takes is one small part to be out of stock and the production line is no longer just in time.

Watched my local shops website. Drove down and picked up the 85 f/2 when it was in stock. They have two locations. One about 15 minutes away, the other is an hour south. Both showed it in stock, but I got the last one at the closer store. Still showing out of stock currently. Feel kind of lucky after reading some of these posts.

No R5’s, but they have R6’s in stock.

They don’t up-charge either. Canon’s regular retail pricing.

I am kind of waiting. The lenses I want to buy are on backorder often or for a long time. When they show up, they are not discounted enough (low supply) to make me bite. On the other hand, the world has gone crazy, no many opportunities to go out and shoot.

You do understand the difficulty that the world is going thru...right ?

A great many things are on..."back-order" !

We just got our P1000 from Adorama after a 3 month wait, I have no idea how long they were out of stock before we joined the wait list. We jumped on the camera immediately after being notified that is was available, and within hours they were sold out again.

You can sometimes get the “grey market” versions online, but I understand that the warrantee is a bit questionable.

Well, there is a pandemic going on that is undoubtedly impacting manufacturing capacity and disrupting supply chains.

On top of that, the Canon R series of cameras and lenses seems to be very popular and in high demand. Perhaps Canon is struggling to keep up with demand.

I have the RF50 1.8 on backorder, and will be ordering the RF85 2.0 next year (can't do both in this year's budget).

UPDATE: The lens is now being sent, and should arrive this week. Naturally, I have high expectations for the use of this lens.

REFLECTION: This will be my first RF lens. While it's not one of the magical RF mounts (RF 28–70mm F2 L USM), it's still going to be very, very good. I remember my first good lens, and the amazement I experienced when viewing the results. The camera as a Canon T2i and the lens was the prime 50 1.8. A very inexpensive pairing, but I have images from those two that still hold up.

I have been waiting on a Canon T8i. Saved up for a year. Finally got ready to buy, and "out of stock" at two places.

B&H had it in stock. I ordered it and received it three days later.

Now comes the learning curve.

I enjoy the electronic level and the digital zoom in the shooting movies setting.
