I installed Big Sur and find out that there is No Drivers Available for my Epson Stylus Photo 1400 . Good thing that i had a time machine backup so i am back to Catalina.

I didn't think i was going to have problem with my printer , sure hope some updated drivers come out soon .

I noted that with my Brother they aren't providing drivers any more. Instead, they recommend using Airprint, which is driver-less. If that printer can do Airprint, perhaps that will work with Epson as well.

I thing this is a serious issue for printing on Macs going forward. And I mean more than older printers like the 1400 or my own Stylus 2200.

Don't do it!

Airprint is NOT an option if you want to print with Application Color Management!

Airprint is an Apple cut-down driver, as opposed to an Epson, Canon, etc. OEM driver. Numerous threads on here about its problems.

Unless you have a brand new Mac, with or without an M1 chip, there's very little if any reason to update to Big Sur at present. Wait until the driver situation has improved.

Also, never upgrade without a CCC, etc. backup.

I installed Big Sur too and found my Epson L355 was not recognised.

I have emailed Epson and Apple UK to find out what is happening with drivers. Epson site says no drivers are currently available for Big Sur.

Very frustrating isn't it.

Though I'd put my own experience here.

I have an Epson R2000. When I first installed Big Sur, my HP printer would not install. Went searching the web. Found a site at HP that offered an uninstaller/printing system reset utility.

I ran that, and then followed instructions within to re-load the appropriate driver. It worked, printing restored!

After all that and reading the OP's post this morning I feared the worst for my Epson. To my great surprise I connected it, opened the Printer Pref Panel, and there was the driver already, working perfectly.

I'm relating all this because I suspect that the HP uninstaller/resetter cleared out old guff, and Big Sur went ahead once it noticed the Epson and selected the appropriate driver.

Or, maybe I just dodged a bullet. Who knows.

Good luck!

No replies yet but downloading a generic driver and choosing the nearest similar printer to mine ( I have L355, chose L310) works fine. Scans and prints OK.

Here it is:

"In response to your email, we understand your frustration on this regard. I can guarantee to you that our team is working on releasing the drivers as soon as possible. Once the drivers are available, they will be found using the Epson Software Update."

Epson don't say when this will be.
