I have M6 mark II and cannot view icons or previews of CR3 files on my Mac.

Does anyone have this working ?

Thanks.

You need to make sure you have the latest version of Mojave to view them. Otherwise download and use Canon DPP.

I have Catalina, latest version.

My Catalina OS iMac won't open .CR3 files either. So Apple has chosen not to support them unlike .CR2 files. This goes along with Adobe not supporting camera matching color profiles for .CR3 files. Must be something complicated in the .CR3 format that major 3rd party developers are avoiding.

Does Apple use LibRaw?

Catalina 10.15.7 finder window, CR3 image from a M6II:

I swear Preview wouldn't open a .CR3 file this morning. Now I see the finder preview and can open in Preview. Sorry for the misinformation. With my luck I probably picked a burst mode bundle which nobody but DPP can open.

So yes OS Catalina 10.15.7 can open M6II files.

I can view cr3 files on my Mac from the M50 but not cr3 from my RP .

I'll add that I can preview .cr3 images from my 90D. Just recently got that camera and just recently upgraded to Catalina in order to upgrade Lightroom and Photoshop.

I have an older iMac (c.2013) running Catalina 10.15.7 and Preview will display .CR3 files some of the time. If it is going to display the image, it usually does so within a few seconds. Otherwise, it just spins and spins and spins...

I have a 2018 Macbook Pro running Catalina 10.15.7 --- and interestingly, preview can open and display (beautifully) every file CRAW .CR3 file I try from the M6ii, but none of the CRAW .CR3 files taken with the M50ii! Wonder what the difference is.

The ones I can open, I can't edit but Preview will convert it to TIFF, JPG, and other formats which is really good to know.

[EDIT] Just updated the Macbook Pro to the latest OS Monterey 12.0.1. The version of Preview in it can now open CRAW .CR3 files from both the M6ii and M50ii.

RAW files can be converted to TIFF which allows editing: brightness, contrast, color, saturation can be adjusted, they can be cropped and even resized and converted to various formats including PNG and JPG. Performance of Preview is very good --- the changes can be seen pretty much in real time as you adjust the sliders.
