According to the Nissin Compatibility Chart (www.nissindigital.com/compatibility-chart), there's "No information available. To be confirmed" on wether the A7RIV and the Nissin i40 are compatible.

I wonder if someone has tried this combination at all?

The Nissin looks like a nice, compact, but still strong flash (especially for my macro photography). Too bad if it would not work with the A7RIV.

Thank you!

Works well with my A7iii, strong, light and compact.

It works on my A7Riv same as it does on my A7iii. Caveats: I use manual power modes only, no TTL (TTL is the thing that is most likely to be affected by compatibility problems). My i40 is broken somewhat. Sometimes (about 1 in 10) it flashes full power despite that it is set to lower. Next shot is dark with no flash or badly timed flash, I guess it is because it thinks it did not account for discharge of capacitor in previous shot. This happens even without camera, just using test button.

Thank you jtra.

For macro I’ll go manual as well. Good to read that it functions in manual. Is it possible for you to test the TTL function? If I own a flash like this, that could be a good thing as well in other situations.
