I was wondering if anyone has the experience with the combination of Z50 with the 24-200mm Z mount lens.

the size and weight proportions of the combo and focal length usability etc

I would like to get the 24-200 with my Z50, but I think it will be months before the lens is available.

At least in Finland one can buy it very easy

It does not appear to be available here in the UK , it is all pre-orders and awaiting stock

My local Nikon dealer in India has it in stock. I will order and see.

I have been looking at getting one myself though the 14-24mm F/2.8s has first dibs on my cash :-) The 24-200mm looks to be a cracking bit of kit with very decent optics for such a long zoom range. I have been impressed with it . The only weakness I have seen looking at the raw samples is some PF which is as a rule simple to fix. Even the tiny 24-50mm looks to be capable of great results

I am interested too. I have the 10-20mm VR which I think would pair nicely with the 24-200mm. But it surely is not cheap!

I thought about this lens for a while, to use on both my Z6 and Z50.

Regarding the Z50 I’m so impressed with the twin DX lens kit, sharp and tiny!

For the Z6 I’m waiting to see what the roadmap 24-105mm slated for 2021 brings to the table.

So the 24-70mm f4 kit lens remains in active service for now on the Z6, with the 24-200mm ruled out for my needs.

Exactly. Since I often use focal lengths below 24mm with my Z50 the 24-200mm wouldn't make lens changes unnecessary.

And I don't think that the image quality of the 24-200mm will be on the same level as the dual kit lenses, not even when you only have the DX frame to cover.

So there is no point for me to buy a lens that would cost me more than I paid for the Z50 with both kit lenses combined.

Forget the sharpness it is there. What is most surprising is the VR effectiveness of the lens especially as the Z50 doesn’t have ibis.

I just picked up the 24-200 and tested it with my Z50. I’m very pleased. I doubt I will keep on on there for daily carrying, but when I’m out hiking with a spouse who doesn’t want to slow down much, it will take be great.

The 24mm-200mm is definitely heavier and feels more substantial than the DX 50mm-250mm lens, but it pairs nicely with the Z50. I have used it a few times with the Z50 and don't notice much difference in image quality between this lens and the 50mm-250mm lens. If I was taking the Z50 hiking and was looking for the lightest combination possible, I would choose the 50mm-250mm kit lens.

Ultimately I think it depends what focal lenght you prefer. The 24mm-200mm will give you more of a wider point of view while the 50mm-250mm more reach.

Thanks for the update.

I too liked it very much- the VR is very effective too.

I, too, would walkabout with the 50-250 zoomer - I think its a brilliant little lens. I'd also have that diminutive 16-50 standing by in a pocket. The 24-200 just doesn't give me the range (in DX equivalency) that I like to have for natural world adventuring.

The trick is to find one in a smaller dealer. I found one in a one man band shop here in Reggio that mostly deals with Olympus (not a good place to be) and second hand gear ( he seems to have an incredible turnover)

Have the 16-80 w/ftz now as travel camera, just considering above as an alternative…

thanks

I use it with my ZFC. It is 36-300 in Dx. I also have 16-50 with me if i want something wider. I love 24-200.

Bear in mind that there is a DX 18-140 coming Soon(tm). That'll probably be a bit cheaper&smaller than the 24-200, and will offer a wider FoV throughout the zoom range (28-200 eq., rather than 36-300).
