I still have a V1 and the 10-30mm zoom which continuously gave me the lens error message, but when I switched it on I find I can shoot 1 or more shots when i stay still, as soon as I move the camera I get the message, So I switched off the stabilisation in the menu it was set to Normal, and no matter how much I wave the camera around the message does not appear and the camera will fire. stranger still I tried the stabilization in Active and still no problem. switched back to Normal and the message re appears when i move the camera. Try this out on your lenses which give the error message to see if you can once again use them.

This is interesting for sure but not all lens failures result in an error message. My failed 30-110 as well as my failed 10mm happily allowed photos to be taken even though the apertures were stuck stopped down all the way; never an error message. The tip off was overly long exposures in good light and less than ideal IQ when the resulting photos were pixel peeped.

Which 10-30?!

The original version has had a free upgrade for a long time, so maybe you'll get it fixed for free, gratis, and for nothing?!

How can I tell the difference?

Its the one in this Nikon recall notice

ie not the “PD” version which automatically extends when you switch the camera on.

I sent one back to Nikon UK some year ago to be “upgraded” - it was still working when I sent it off.

The notice still seems to be active.

They still do this repair and My lens is now on it's way to them.

A BIG THANKS GUYS, :-D

I have just received this lens back from Nikon UK all fixed. Thanks for the suggestion to send it in to Nikon.

Glad you got it fixed, I wonder how much longer they will offer the service. Also irritating that they turned a blind eye to all of the other lenses that seem to have the same issue, but I should say that I don’t know for sure that they all had the same exact problem. Mighty suspicious though!
