I have had no luck in the past with upgrading the firmware for my XC 50-230 mm on the XT-3. Today, I found there was a new version of the lens firmware available from Fuji, so I hopefully downloaded the file and tried to update the firmware on my XT-4. The same thing happened as in the past. Even though I have put the file on the card in slot 1, the camera reports there is no firmware on the card. Since I had just updated the firmware for my 10-24 mm lens following the exact same recommended procedure I conclude there is either something wrong with the downloaded Fuji file or there is something unusual about this lens. Does any one have a solution to this? It's no big deal. I only use this lens as a lightweight zoom when travelling, and it works very well.

Have you followed this Firmware Update Steps ?
  1. Check the firmware version.
  2. Prepare a formatted memory card.
  3. Download the firmware and copy it to the card.
  4. Put the memory card with the firmware in the camera and update it.

Some of the firmware files are in zip format (.zip). The contents of the zip files need to be extracted and the *.DAT files need to be located on the SD card.

At least on the second version of this lens (be sure you are paying attention to which version), I haven't encountered any problems. The Fuji decision to repeatedly use the exact same file name with every version is extremely lazy, and can be a source of the problem, I suppose.

It is a fantastic lens despite the small aperture.

I had the same thought, but in this case the download isn't zipped. I just upgraded without issue.

OP do you have 50-230 attached? The lens you're upgrading has to be the one attached to the camera.

I updated several lenses today: 18-55, 15-45, 16-50, and a 50-230. A couple of the files were zips, but I don't recall which ones. They were probably the 15-45 and 16-50.

I think this is only for the V2 version of the lens.

I'm pretty sure that is the issue for the OP. There is no version update for the original 50-230 likely due to the fact that the second version came out so soon after the original.

It would be nice if Fuji tech folks would put some kind of a notice on the version 2 page that there are no updates available for the original version, and these updates will not be accepted on the earlier model. On the front of the barrel, if there is no "II" between OIS and the 058 filter size designation, you have the original version (and there is nothing wrong with that - other than slightly less capable OIS function).

Yes - it's attached

Thanks - that appears to be the case. There is no II next to OIS on the lens. I bought this lens on in April of 2016 and didn't realize, as I do now after a little research that version II came out the previous year. But this lens has indeed served very well over the past four years, so no complaints.

It's a great lens, I have the version 1 also. The difference between versions 1 and 2 is minimal anyway - I believe version 2 has an extra half-stop of OIS.

Someone say that the difference is 1 whole extra stop, but exists no other difference.

I don't understand why version 1 has never received firmware update... how is possibile version 2 has some fix and a previous version none?

It is a fair concern, especially when you see that the XC 16-50 got a couple firmware updates, but nothing since 2014. Sometimes the lens is performing well enough from the start without the need for an update. The XF 50 has been out for a few years and hasn't required an update. I certainly have no complaints about that one.

The update is for version II. Just for fun I tried to upgrade my version I and the camera does not see the upgrade. So version II only.

Wish I knew what is being fixed in all the lens upgrades...
