I am thinking about replacing my old Epson with the Canon Pro100. Presently the cost is about $350 after the mail-in rebate. I was wondering if the price has been lower within the past year as I seem to remember there were various bundles that included the Pro100 that resulted in a lower cost than $350. If so, any thoughts about when such a future bundle and lower cost might happen?
In the U.S., Pro-100 prices have been rising for about six months, we don't know why, and we don't know whether much less when they will fall again.
For a few years the Pro-100 had generally been $130 net of rebate, and there were occasional specials that went as low as $60 net of rebate. About six months ago the price went up to about $150 net of rebate, and the Pro-100 was out of stock more often than it had been. Then a couple of months ago the price went up to $210 net of rebate. Now Adorama does not list the Pro-100 at all, and B&H has it for $349 net of rebate. Why?
* Maybe the Pro-100 is being discontinued and is about to be replaced with a new model, and the price has gone up because only a few remain in stock and there's still strong demand.
* Maybe Canon is having CoVid-19-related production and/or distribution problems with the Pro-100. High demand plus low supply equals increased prices.
* Maybe Canon has decided that the Pro-100 has become the clear printer to have in this market segment, that it has crushed its nearest competitor, the Epson XP-15000, which is also $349, and therefore that there's no reason to essentially give the printers away for the price of the ink that comes with them (or less).
* Maybe Canon has decided that it alienates customers in other parts of the world by selling the Pro-100 in the U.S. so much cheaper than anywhere else.
Those are just my best guesses. I don't think any of us really knows.
