I just received my Dell XPS 15 in the mail. Very excited. Below are the specs.

210-ASIH XPS 15 7000 Series-7590
338-BSDC 9th Generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-9980HK (16MB Cache, up to 5.0 GHz, 8 cores) 1 EA - -
619-ANOK Windows 10 Home 64bit English 1 EA - -
490-BFFV NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) GTX 1650 4GB GDDR5 1 EA - -
370-AERS 32GB DDR4-2666MHz, 2x16G 1 EA - -
400-BFJH 1TB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD 1 EA - -
391-BEOZ 15.6" 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) InfinityEdge Anti-Reflective Touch IPS 100% AdobeRGB
500-Nits display
1 EA - -
555-BFBL Killer Wi-Fi 6 AX16

I'm no computer wiz for sure. I figured I would have to adjust color. Loaded up my photo folder and sure enough the colors are off. Now I'm trying to figure out how to do this. I understand how to get to the settings but then what? I was hoping all I'd have to do was make sure SRGB was the default but there seems to be much more too it!

Any advice?

I have the brightness way down too. 500 Nits will blow your eyes out!

Some PC manufacturers have provided color control utilities that can mess up the display calibration. I had to remove such utilities from Asus and Dell laptops in the past, and I wouldn't be surprised if they still do.

I've gotten into the habit of doing a clean install of Windows as soon as I know a new PC's hardware is OK; that way I know there's no OEM utilities messing things up, but you may want some of Dell's other utilities.

I don't remember what Dell called their color utility, so I'd suggest doing a web search for its name, then preventing it from running at startup and/or removing it.

The only way I'd have a screen anywhere near that bright is if I was working in direct sunlight.

I have an XPS15 that is a couple years old, but I suspect you have the same Dell Premier Color Utility that will allow you to choose the color gamut of the display. It's likely that the gamut is set for one of the wide gamut options, not "Internet" or sRGB. I don't recall what the default is as I leave mine in Internet sRGB unless I'm doing something specific that benefits from a wider gamut.

You can access the utility from the right side of your task bar via the "up caret" that opens a box of various utilities.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!

Thank you.
