I've owned it for years. Sold it along with my old a58.
Unfortunately this lens was on my shelf for the last 3 years but after owning the 16-50 f2.8, 35mm f1.8 and other a-mount lenses I went to a walk in the park with the 18-55 SAM II
And it's actually a very good performer! It's amazing at 18mm and even if you go a little further. I believe it's worst on it's tele end. I did shoot some portraits with it years ago and the sharpness wasn't there wide open. at 5.6. Maybe I've tryied 6.3 but more than that on a portrait it's a no no for me.
On DXOmark this lens sharpness rating is actually pretty great. Better than it's nikon and canon similars.
The focus is fast and accurate. Only bad in dim light. But what lens doesn't suffer from it?
Overall, it's a light lens, with really good image quality for the price and it's owners shouldn't be afraid of using it. I would easily shoot a wedding with it with a flash. Not as my only lens though. Always shoot them on 2 bodies and at least 1 lens for each body. Would go a fast prime from 35 to 90 on the other camera as the kit lens is more soft and 5.6 on the tele end.
5 stars because even though it's quite soft at it's tele end. I could not expect more at this price tag.
