X-T3 or XT-30 for wildlife/birding?

I mostly shoot landscape, street and architecture using GFX50R and X-E3. I know very little about the finer details of autofocus tech, nor how the various X-Tn models compare.

Now the dilemma: I have a XF 100-400mm lens and am a little tempted to pick up a second X house, to use with the 100-400mm for the occasional wildlife/birding excursions. With the recent price drops - should I get a T3 or will a T30 do as fine? I have read the specs but as stated above, T cameras are new to me.

AF wise they are the same.

However with the X-T3 you get better build quality, weather sealing, better ergonomics(subjective), a better EVF, two card slots, 1/8000s mechanical shutter, 11fps with mechanical shutter(8 on the X-T30), a bigger buffer, better video etc. If any of these things matter depends on your needs and preferences. The higher fps and bigger buffer can of course be beneficial for wildlife.

When using a heavy lens such as the Fujinon 100-400mm I'd personally go with the X-T3 and a battery grip for balance.

And Fuji do seem more ready to update the XT3 AF via firmware than the X-T30.

That is an excellent point, I would hate not to get the firmware updates coming to the X-T3.

Thanks all for valuable input! I decided to go with the T3 and just ordered the X-T3 + VG-T3 package.

If the xe3 has the same CAF capabilities as the Xt2 then I don’t think you need a new body for wildlife. Just get a good grip for your XE3 and use the camera you already have.
