Hi, I have some Canon FD lenses and I want to buy lens caps for them. Third party rear caps seem to fit the breech mount lenses but not the nFD lenses. Does anyone know what to do? Are there any third-party ones that have worked for you?

You could put the caps back to back and see what differences there are. I'd look at thickness, I.D. and O.D.

They should fit if they are made correctly, I can switch caps between FL, FD and nFD without issue, try a different brand, or buy used Canon FD caps on ebay.

####Where's my FF NEX-7 ?????
Firmware request:
-A button map for toggling the EVF & LCD
-Still waiting for the minimum shutter speed with auto ISO for my NEX-7 and A7r. I know it will never happen.
-Customize the display screen layout, I'd love to have both Histogram and level at the same time.
-More peaking options, being able to set peaking sensitivity and a threshold level.
-An RGB overlay on the histogram -An option to return the focus assist zoom to one button press
-An option to return to how the NEX-7 handled playback, ie. center button to zoom, then you could use the control dial to zoom in and out, then center button to exit the zoom mode.

Most aftermarket FL/FD/FDn caps are molded from FDn caps. But it looks like you may have bought old caps for third party FL breech lock lenses. The only way to tell the difference is the length of the bayonet lug and its thickness.

Buy ones with the long, even thickness lugs, like the one above. Original FL caps have uneven thickness from one half of the lug. and that's why they don't fit. There are also third party caps turn far enough to lock the cap onto the lens, which also work.

EDIT: I just found another original FL cap with short lugs, but with even thickness. I guess Canon was all over the place in term of rear caps.

Hi Matty,

See this thread; you might be able to fix the problem by filing down the lens caps:

Regards,

Alan

Thanks, I bought third party caps off Amazon and B&H and same problem with both.

Just bought five original Canon nFD caps off eBay and am going to return the ones I bought. Hoping these work!

Feel guilty depriving everyone else but they were cheap so I couldn't help myself...

Is this a start of a lens cap collection? It's probably a much cheaper addiction vs LBA and GAS.

Well they arrived today and they look like brand new factory sealed nFD lens caps.

I know you were kidding, but if there's a place to start on a lens cap collection, this is it. I hope my ten contax rear caps are almost as good.

I also have a few tin Zeiss caps similar to this:

They go for quite a lot on eBay!

How do you like your Contax 45mm f2 btw? I'm deciding between a G2 with a 45mm f2 and an Aria with a 50mm f1.7 for my non-lens cap side of the hobby.
