I got this shot just before the sun disappeared below the horizon. I must say they look better in that golden light.

Cropped and sharpened only. No color manipulation.

Well captured Red. The golden light is hiding some of the coloration of the heron. The red eyes shore do pop.

Thanks, Morris, much appreciated!

Nice shot.

Tricoloreds are my favourite heron/egrets. I particularly like the juveniles with their reddish/mahogany and slate blue tones.

Yeah, its so disappointing. You get the mythical sunset good light, but then you realize, it doesn't actually work with the subject matter as you might have thought. I have one with a blue heron at sunrise against a water fall, the colors are all off, no blue and there is no contrast. Still a good picture, because it is the moment.

I'm not saying no one is entitled to a different opinion but the light from the golden hour is usually considered a plus because of it's warmth and how it makes colors brilliant and therefore color inaccuracy is usually overshadowed by it's pros unless that golden light is too intense. I can understand wanting natural colors for a pic but that's a personal choice, a color change doesn't make a pic wrong for everyone.

I tend to agree, but I think you still have to adjust the colors a little.

Jpg out of camera exposure set for sunny, looks kind of washed out and off color.
