Z6 - Overly Pink Skin Tones?

Hey all, I'm interested in switching to a Z6 (currently use a Sony A7RIII). I rented one and liked it, but I was concerned by the really strong pink in skin tones, especially in Capture One, which is my usual raw converter.

Here are two examples, the first taken with an old Nikkor 105 f/2.5 non-AI, the second with the Sony GM 100-400 lens. I believe both were taken with the Standard profile, if that matters when you're shooting raw. Has anyone else come across this? Is there something I'm doing wrong? Thanks!

I don't use Capture One, only Nikon View and Capture, which let you select Picture Profiles after capture with a RAW file.

I have found that, in some close-up portraits like this, Auto and Standard can provide too much white/red contrast, almost blotchiness, on pale skin.

Portrait or Neutral can be much better in this case (but not always for portraits, so you have to try in post). Nikon View NXi is a free download from Nikon; don't know what Picture Profiles are in Capture.

Which profile do you use?

I don't have Z6 but Z7 and use it also with C1 and use normally the standard Z7 profile with auto courve.

If I want to be very exact I use x-rite color checker and generate a profile (which I did for normal outdoor light for example) and use that.

Anyhow, my results reflect very much reality and I dislike what I saw on Sony because I had to correct the pictures in post much more when I tested, that's why I kept Z7 and not Sony.

there might also be a touch of WB improvement in these to help the pinkness?

These are shot with the face in shadow and will thus probably have an incorrect WB. You need to balance WB in the shadows as it can look off.

This is C1 20, with the generic Z6 profile set to Auto curve.

Thanks for all the tips and advice, folks!

I never liked those available profiles, those are for jpg shooters. If you shoot Raw just set one for your taste. I pick the neutral one which has a bit more contrast in order to attend the EVF providing a more pleasing view to my eyes.

I looked at the first one and immediately thought the same thing. I had the same thing happen in mixed sun/shadow this weekend. WB off and under exposure will tend to go to blue/pink.

After looking over hundreds of Z7 RAW files in Capture One Pro, I found that the C1 color profiles for the Z6/Z7 are very good, but I often needed to adjust the white balance to get more balanced color.

Other than that, I think the colors are great out of C1 Pro for the current Z cameras.
