I would definitely stall at taking my long zoom camera into the streets here.

You want to be sued? Try taking someone's picture and publish it without permission.

Phone users take street shots all the time and nobody seems to object.

However, if you show up with a decent size camera, folks get alarmed, so you don't use it just in case things get out of hand.

Times have definitely changed here in the UK.

OMG, just learned that the Huawei P40 Pro (to be launched in March) will have a 10x optical zoom lens with 16MP...

However, if you show up with a decent size camera, folks get alarmed, so you don't use it just in case things get out of hand.

Interesting comments. I've begun to do a bit of street photography and find that, by and large, people in my area seem fine with the idea of being photographed. Perhaps it's my winning smile or maybe a gray haired, slightly overweight geezer is deemed not to be a threat. :-D

As far as I know what they use is a "periscope zoom lens". Google that up.
