for all the GRIII naysayers, this is from Philippe Farreng, General Sales Manager for Europe, Ricoh Imaging:

"One of the most important products of our group is the Ricoh GR, the ideal device for street photography. We launched the Ricoh GR III 6 months ago and we are enjoying an extraordinary success: compared to the sales we made with the GR II we have had an absolutely incredible jump, especially in Europe where we have multiplied our sales by 7 or 8. It’s therefore one of the pillars of the group today and one of the areas Ricoh are investing heavily in. In the future, many developments in the GR range are to be expected."

perhaps there will be a GRIV after all

I bought every GRD camera I, II, III, IV then the GR I, but skipped the GR II as there was not enough of a change from the prior model.

Suspect others are the same, so the sales number are less extraordinary than headlined.

Ricoh also lost the plot after the Pentax merge, killing the GXR and its obvious path to mirrorless, so I did loose faith for a few years.

The IBIS tipped the hand for me to get the GR III.

Wishing, as ever, for a 40mm view variant....

Also good to see gr.blog is back, active and also looking to both English and Japanese speaking enthusiasts.

Thank you very much for the post on this...

this line here has me smiling. While I was surprised at the exit of Mr Noguchi this will no doubt put the GR line back to being very open to what the GR IIII (IV) design may bring. I don't dare suggest it but a GR IIII wish list likely has started somewhere.

Olifaunt, have you tried the 35 & 50mm crop modes?

I used the 35mm crop mode when I had the GR II. I preferred that to the native 28mm. It reduced the resolution from APS-C to about that of M43, but I was fine with that.

Man, I`m hoping for a 30mm Ricoh GR (45mm equiv) and maybe even a short-zoom GR.

The 47mm crop of the GR dI do use on occasions. I've used both the OM 40mm Zuiko and the 45mm on the DP2 Merrill a lot so am very familiar with this FL.

I’d buy a GR with a 30mm (45mm equiv) in a heartbeat! I’d prefer 27mm (40mm equiv), but that’s just my being picky. 😬

40mm FOV equivalent is my favorite focal length . for years I have dreamed of a GR with a 40mm fov equivalent. the irony is that if in the future Ricoh was to produce a model like the current GRIII with a 40mm , it would still be useless for my work :-(

Ricoh made a few GR21 film cameras. While we have the 21mm equiv adapter I would like a more compact GR IV Digital 21mm native.

Well I guess this means the flash in permanently dead.
Not at all, it likely will be in the next version. No doubt they will have heard a lot of feedback about it, electronics tech will move on and they may miniaturize some areas and find space for it.

I hope you are right. And I also hope that we get a new version soon rather than later.

It's the perfect stills camera at its focal length. Roughly the same bulkiness factor as a smartphone, but vastly superior ergonomics and image quality.

If there were one with a longer focal length (equivalent to 40mm or greater) I would buy that too and ditch my MFT system all together. For video, the latest iPhone is good enough for my needs.

Sorry for reviving this post. I have a little question related to this: would anyone know where to find the sales figures for the GR III by any chance?

Not sure what use you or any of us would have for these but I do not think anyone on these forums have them

Even if someone had the sale figures for a given country it would not tell much about global sales AND nothing about profitability of the model

If you enjoy your GRIII , whatever the sales numbers are won t change your pictures, right ?

Well it is good news and the more they sell the more the camera evolves. And who knows, maybe they add back some buttons and the 4:3 format...
Hi Sprouty

i am confused 😐 what is the good news ? Or even the news for that matter ?
