Can Insta360 ONE X be used for close-up photos of objects positioned 2-3 inches around the camera? Would there be stitching errors or focusing problems at such distance? Would anyone who owns the camera be willing to take a 360 image like this and post the result?

The minimum focusing distance might be fine with a fisheye, I don't know.

You're likely to get stitching issues at that range.

(I don't have the camera, I have a Mi Sphere 360)

Sadly sample images from the Insta are hard to come by. 360Rumors only posted postprocessed JPEGs from their raw DNGs, and not the original DNGs - inability to analyze DNGs and some of Mic's comments that were consistent with a broken DNG color profile led to me not bothering to upgrade from the Mi Sphere.

Thank you Entropy. I guess the only way to find out is to buy the camera and test it.

I don't know if I am going to do that as I am growing more skeptical. In any case, the minimal stitching distance should be in the spec.

FYI, I believe the much cheaper Mi Sphere is actually regarded as having better stills quality. IIRC the OneX has lens optics improvements but not enough to compensate for having 12MP sensors instead of 16MP. The Sphere also is one of the thinner 360 cameras out there, so PROBABLY a lower minimum stitch distance with Mi Sphere Converter. (I would not recommend the Mi Sphere's default stitching software).

The Sphere is now selling for $100 so it's a pretty low-risk purchase at that price. But budget $15 for Yoichi Hirota's Mi Sphere Converter app.

The embedded DNG color profile in the camera is severely broken, but there's a Mi Sphere users Facebook group where I uploaded a DCP profile that fixes the color issues. I'm trying to get it hosted somewhere more readily accessible/widely seen.
