Today, I received my new lens hood for the X100F. It is made out of aluminium and precisely manufactured. Comes from a Swedish company: https://squarehood.se/

I love that look! As crazy as it seems it makes me want a X100 camera even more :-D

Could you test this shade with the internal flash?

Fuji´s will cast a soft shadow if the flash is used as a fill in. Distance app. 2 meters.

Only way of getting rid of it, is removing the Fuji shade.:-)

Thanks in advance Horst.

Horst, the hood shadows a small portion of the frame, approx. the lower 5%. Will require some cropping if you shot a white wall (like I did for testing), but I doubt if it matters in real life.

Yes it's a damn good looking, well made and functional hood. Two flaws: the rubber aperture cover is fiddly as all get out and mine is long gone somewhere, and if you want to take the hood off for some reason you need a tiny little screwdriver.

Many thanks for that answer. This shade looks gorgeous anyway. Horst

I placed an order for the x100v and the Squarehood.

Perhaps there are downsides to this decision, but the round hoods on my X100 and X100s are easily removed and a standard lens cap can be used, but one of the killer features of the X100 is the combined goodness of a leaf shutter and on camera fill flash and this is not an option with other hoods. So, putting up with an awkward lens cover it is. I will probably loose it in short order.

I've got the LHX100 that comes with the standard ARX100 adapter ring for weather sealing on the X100V. I'm sure the Fuji lens hood will block the flash just like the other models even though it does look a bit thinner, and now I'm tempted to get the Squarehood.

Any ideas if it will fit onto the Fuji adapter ring and maintain weather sealing or does it look like its proprietary extension ring only? That looks to be my only concern so far.

The AR-X100 adapter ring has a bayonet mount, so the SquareHood cannot be mounted on it. To mount the SquareHood and attach a filter for weather protection, it looks like you need to buy the SquareHood extension ring along with the SquareHood Mk II kit.

That looks handy, but only available in black?

Thanks for that. I ordered a silver one.

Looks like a nice addition to the X100. Stylish but pricey!

Thanks for sharing 👍

Not pricey at all considering your paying 1399 for a point and shoot.lol
It is of course a matter of perspective but Aluminum is a very cheap material and easy to manufacture.

... and a version for the 27/2.8 is coming.

I was looking at the SquareHood as well but you get up there near $100 after it's all said and done, that's a lot for a lens hood even though it looks great.

I purchased the Fuji adapter so I could attach a filter but which hoods have the bayonet ring that work with the Fuji adaptor?

I did the same and I’m now wondering the same thing. If all else fails I have the Fuji hood with the adapter and I could just take it off when using flash.

I reached out to the Squarehood team and they said their extension ring plus filter and hood would be as weather sealed as the official Fuji combination.

I think I may bite the bullet and buy the SquareHood, best-looking hood for the V and it doesn't look like you don't have to remove it for the flash and you can still use a filter - but that $90+ for a hood is a difficult pill to swallow. Decisions decisions...
