How tempting the X-H1!!!

The XH1 sucks a LOT of battery power so you have to change your habits and have to turn this and that off to maximize the amount of photos. The new 126S batteries are not cheap either. There are other few things I did not like about the camera functions.

Over all, at the current deal with grip the XH1 is a bargain and I know you said you don't care about IBIS but once you use it you will fall in love with it. The XH1 IBIS works REALLY well and it works and I seriously doubt it will go bad on you just because. The smooth buttery and responsive silent shutter button is also a beauty.

As JayPhizzt said it is essentially a XT2 and I agree. The AF is totally fine for most things but it is not as good as the new XT3 so in low light it will still have a harder time focusing in certain situations.

Me personally I would rather wait for the XT3 at a discounted price or wait for the XH2 replacement. Most likely I will not buy a XH1 no matter how good the price is.

Sorry Giovanni but I had to give the good with the bad :-)
Interesting observation regarding color from xh-1 vs xe-1.

Exactly what is different, is it that the colors from xh-1 are just similar to many other non Fuji cameras?
there have seen very long discussions as to what (some of us) see different. It can be hard to explain it and is obviously better to see it for yourself but the colors our of my XT1 are just so much nicer, jpeg and RAW. The skin tones are also so much easier to fix. With the XH1 I had to spend a lot more time adjusting those things. With the XH1 I started seeing PINK skin tones and that did it for me so I said bye bye to it. I know my kids don't have those tones on them hahahaha :-) and I know because I have shot thousands of photos with other previous Fuji cameras.

I cannot say anything about other non Fuji cameras because I haven't used any other APS-C brand, BUT, now that you mention this, It kind of did remind me of the Nikon D7000 I had which had really flat unpleasant looking skin tones, mainly TAN skin tones. The Nikon D7000 gave me brownish/tan looking skin tones but they looked totally baked and flat. The fujis of today are more pink. Personally I don't like that and to respond to Giovanni, with the XH1 no matter how I tried "tuning" the colors the look is still not the same as older cameras.

Some have said that you can tune the colors to your liking, but apparently you have to be an expert in Photoshop or something like that. Oh and by the way, many here claim that they don't see any difference, so there is a possibility that my eyes are bad hehehe :-)

The weird part of this is that I found the issue mainly under outdoor natural light.

Anyway, I'm sure others are not as picky as I am and the XH1 is a great value right now, is just not the camera for me :-)

thanks for your timely and detailed replu

all that would turn me off to the XH-1 as well, especially since one of the reasons to go with Fuji is the color redition

the last and best sensor for color IMO was the Kodak sensor in the Leica M9 however, not great at high ISOs and many of those sensor had to be replaced because of other issues

Just upgraded from the X-E1 to the H1. I think the H1 has a little bit brighter colors, but you can use different profiles and tune them if you want more muted.

A great test of a camera's tracking AF is a spastic kitten-and the X-H1 can keep up with even our little "Crackhead" so unless you're a pro sports shooter, you can probably make it work for you.

The X-H1 with grip is a thousand bucks, down from what, $2300 several months ago? Was going to get a used X-T2 and be satisfied, but for two hundred bucks more I got a weatherized, ruggedized, 'Bolton proof' bomb proof professional grade mirrorless camera that can turn its hand to any challenge I could ever throw at it.

And it comes with three batteries, so even if you don't use the grip, just put the batteries in your pocket and quit worrying. It's easier to switch batteries than to plug in.

The X-H1 has a 3.69 million dot EVF. (I looked it up in my owner's manual) whereas the X-T2 has a 2.36 million dot EVF. And when I shoot the H1 in its fastest burst mode, the blackout is less than with the mirror flip from a DSLR-it's more than easily possible to keep tracking your shot during an 11fps burst. I haven't tried the 14fps e-shutter burst as yet, I haven't needed to.

Looking forward to cyclocross season this year-I'm to chubby to race it anymore, but I finally have a camera capable of shooting it!

Like I said, it is best to use it and see for yourself because hey, you might not see anything wrong with it and I’m not telling you or discouraging or preventing you from getting that really good deal.

What I say is just based on my very personal experience and taste for colors, you know what I mean?

The colors are essentially the same. The resolution is higher with the X-H1 which might lead some to think the X-E1 is more film-like. It's not. It's just less resolute, and more difficult to hold still when shooting hand-held.

Yes, I do know what you mean however, your are sensitive to color deviation and that mean much to me as I am as well; I'll check it out personally to make doubly certain.

Thanks!

Another good point for me to check out personally, thank you.

Colors discussion apart I had a short chat yesterday with a person working at one of the biggest dealers in the US who told me the promo being available till August 29th, I hope he was wrong, if it lasts till at least mid Sept I might really hit the button and get one, worse scenario keep the body and sell the lens or viceversa, still a great upgrade off of my X-Pro1

Well, don't know who to believe, but Focus camera says on the website is until 09/29/19, but who knows, it may be a mistake.

Colors from the XH1 are “essentially the same” as the XE1? Definitely not.

The extra resolution definitely gives it a different feel and look to the IQ so I agree with you there, but colors specially skin tones are definitely not the same. The skin tones of the newer cameras (jpeg or RAW) are more flat one tone look, the XE1 as well as the XT1 and others produce a nicer color separation and you can often tell on the lips. The lips have more color and have this separation from the skin. In fact this was THE main reason of me selling my D7000 and jumped ship to Fuji with the S5 Pro. When I saw those images from the S5 I knew that was exactly the IQ that I was looking for. I still get that satisfaction with what the XT1 produces. Not so much with the newer bodies 😢

I hope it lasts till mid September at least, I need to upgrade my X-Pro1 and if the 16-55 comes along with the grip at that price it might really make me leave the D800 home.

Thank you for the link
