I am renting this camera for a week to try out before buying it (didn't buy outright because I was nervous about all the poor af reports) and was curious to see if I could use off camera flash via optical slave (dug one out of my flash kit that probably hasn't been used since the 1800s, lol).
When my boys wanted a profile picture for their YouTube channel I thought it would be a perfect real world test to see how it would work. It worked surprisingly well. I turned on the camera flash to manual, low setting making sure the red-eye setting was disabled and voila. I did a brief flash test outside with the nd filter on and shutter speed of 1/1000 which worked!
Then we came inside and I snapped this shot for them:

Here is the setup which could probably be more elegant (the arm is a little long but the shortest one I have) and I angled the on camera flash up with my finger to ensure it didn't spill into the shot but you could probably leave it and even dial up the power for a little fill. It was really nice and light and easy to hold and zoom and autofocus. Maybe my new 'studio' camera, haha!

Cheers,
Scot
