Years ago when I got my NEX-5 I recall nothing but nay-sayers mocking the new system, experience-pros profoundly chanting "DOA!" in unison.

Today, while not perfect and still growing, there is quite a selection of E mount lenses available for the Sony cameras. What do you find your favorite to date? (And what subject(s) do you shoot with it?)

Loxia 50 - combination of size, build, MF experience, and of course rendering make it a real winner. I’ll buy it back in the near future.

for portraits, the 85mm 1.8 works great for me...

Despite its normalness, I gotta say the FE55 is my favorite if by that I mean the lens I use and trust most to do what I expect it to do. Best rendering, no? Best manual focus experience, no? But the combo of fast and effective AF, sharpness, and compact size is a winner for me. It works for portraits plus other walkaround stuff, which pretty much describes what I do. I like F1.4 lenses more, but don’t like lugging around extra weight. I like 85 and 21mm a lot, but they are more limited. My lenses at those FLs are sometimes more fun to shoot, but less used.

Favorite is Distagon 35 1.4

most used is 2470GM

Sony GM 100-400. I shoot lots of nature subjects from Macro to Flying birds!

My E-mount lenses are mostly not Sony brand, favorite including : Laowa 15, Zeiss Loxia 21, Sigma 35 1.4 Art, Zeiss Loxia 35, Zeiss Loxia 50, Voigtlander 65, Sony 85GM, Samyang 135.

My favorite was the Sony Distagon T FE 35mm F1.4 ZA, but I sold it for the Sony GM 24-70mm f2.8 for its versatility and because i started shooting events even more these days and grew annoyed of having to switch lenses.

These days I only have the 24-70 GM and the 85mm f1.8. Though, I'm wondering if I should sell the 85mm f1.8 for the Sigma105mm f1.4 or Sony GM 135mm f1.8 since the 2470GM already gives me the range of 60-70mm which are pretty close to 85mm.

I mainly shoot fashion portraits, bodyscapes, and studio head shots.

Now dabbing a bit more into some wedding and engagements photoshoots.

That's actually a more difficult question than it seems at first.

Certainly my most used lens is the 24-105 F4 and I like it alot, but for sheer IQ and its "special" quality, I would have to say my 100 STF. There really isn't anything quite like it.

Cheers

The 16-35GM... before that the Batis 18.

My favourite lens changes daily, even hourly, as it depends what I'm doing. Many of my "regular favourites" are adapted manual focus (Otuses, Zeiss 135/2 APO Sonnar) but my favourite *native* lens (today) is the 400mm f/2.8 GM (my most recent purchase). The 70-200 GM was my longest lens until I got this so 400mm adds significant extra reach to my setup and lots of new possibilities to explore. It's a spectacular performer too - but everyone already knows that.

Without meaning to sound flippant, whatever lens I have on my camera. And then I always find something that I want to shoot with another lens and sometimes curse myself for not bring a particular lens along...not a lot different that what Beatsy wrote just above.

I sense that the issue you're trying to resolve is 'what lens do I buy next?', in which case perhaps do some analysis of your shots with the lenses you have: do you find yourself looking for more reach? a wider angle? more sharpness? better rendition? what kinds of shots do you like to take? portraits? landscapes? action? BIF? or? Once you narrow down what you're missing, there are a lot of choices and you'll get lots of opinions.

My favourite lens is the Batis 25f2. When i look at my favourite images most are from the Batis 25. It's a great FOV for the subjects i shoot (landscape) and with the Riii makes a useful 'everyday' lens as well.

Like others I have more than one favourite. The 100-400 has more shutter actuations than the rest of my lenses put together, but also the lowest number of favourite images.

My least used lens is the Batis 18 but it has the highest ratio of favourites to images. When you need suoper wide for a specific look chances are it's something special.

Just for fun, my least favourite lens in my current use is the 55f1.8. The CA is a killer in a lot of landscape situations and I find it just a bit long for an everyday lens.

This, it fits really well in the a7x system.

A trio of 28/2, 55/1.8 and 85/1.8 (though I don't feel the need in latter one). Very good optics at right price, compact and lightweight, with good build quality and terrific AF. Combining all these properties in single lens is a special challenge, which makes this trio remarkable.

Voight 12mm is a great lens, at one point I even wanted to sell it. ... not now.

Do you specifically prefer it to 10mm or 15mm? Why do you think 12mm is better for you?

I bought 12mm because 10mm seemed too wide - you get too many things in the frame, sometimes even your fingers.

I'm asking because I want to learn how to better use this lens. Your work is marvelous! https://www.flickr.com/photos/from-reinier/albums/72157686254400295
