I purchased an Atomos Ninja V external recorder to use with my Z6 and have set things up to capture 10 bit 4-2-2 NLOG through HDMI. Everything captures fine, but I haven't been able to find a LUT for Nikon NLOG footage. I could manually grade all the footage, but having a decent LUT sure saves a lot of time. I have seen the EOSHD ZLOG LUT, but that is for internally captured footage (8 bit 4-2-0) and not NLOG. I can tell the quality of the 10 bit NLOG footage is very good, just need a LUT to complete the workflow.

I have searched everywhere and I can't seem to find a workflow for the Z cameras using NLOG.

I am not an expert color grader so any advice would be appreciated if you are using NLOG.

I too would love one, but haven't found one yet. Atomos obviously has one (for the Ninja V preview), I'm hoping they release it, with the firmware updates for ProRes Raw.

I'm using the Panasonic V-Log to Rec.709 LUT on Nikon N-Log and I find it works well.

To get the LUT package, go to this page, scroll down to the LUT section and then click on VariCam 35 3DLUT V-Log to V-709.

The package has a few LUTs, Panasonic V-Log-HDR and Panasonic V-Log-V1 through V9. I use Panasonic V-Log-V4, but V8 looks good too.

The content I'm filming is very colourful and requires faithful colour reproduction. Here is a cut-and-paste from my notes:
What worked very well:

Lumetri Color
  • Panasonic V-LOG-V4-LTR
  • Auto settings (possibly adjust shadows)
Video Effects -> Color Correction -> Brightness and Contrast
  • Brightness 20.0
  • Contrast 10.0

Gollan, I appreciate the heads up on this. I will certainly give this a try to see what results that I get.

Also, I found this last night from FilmConvert but not sure if its worth the price. If anyone has tried it please let us know.

You might want to try Wolfcrow.com as he offers a few Luts to download; however, you would need to pay a subscription to his website to get them. He also has some good Nikon Z6 articles for filmmakers. I have been editing with Grass Valley Edius Pro 9 and there is a color correction preset for Nikon N-Log which yields very good results and exporting to 4K 10 bit HDR looks amazing. You just drop the preset on the timeline to convert it.
