Looking for an online course, workshop or classes and someone suggested the Karl Taylor education course for photographers. Does anyone have any information on this course, its very inexpensive but don't want to waste my time if it doesn't provide great and correct information. Or can anyone recommend a good course, took all the photography 101 courses, ready for the next step, thx.

There are a lot of people out there who teach online. What you didn't mention is what kind of photography you want to learn. Karl is a commercial/product shooter mostly and uses very high end Bron lighting equipment.. Is that what you want to learn? If so, he's worth the money. But, if you want to learn portraiture, weddings, landscapes, or just photography in general. even though he touches on those areas, there are better, more in depth places to go. But it depends on which area of study you are more interested in.

You might want to look into sites like KelbyOne and Creative Live. They h ave many many courses from photographers of all walks of life. Basics, Street, Portraiture, Weddings, Commercial, Seniors, Landscapes, etc. Karl is good but the other sites allow you to learn from a lot more photographers.

Just about al sites have a month to month fee. So if you only want to go on for a month, you only pay about $10-$20 and then you can decide later if you want to pay another month. Or pay for a whole year and get a nice discount.

It sort of depends on your experience level. If you're at a beginner or intermediate level you might want to check out lynda.com, they have a free month and lots of topics on photography and post-processing.

After the free month it's about $30 a month. Once you've gone through a bunch of those you'll probably know what you want to learn next, which will make selecting a more expensive course easier.

Well I have no experience but the website says $14/mth and cancel anytime. So its like a meal at McDonald's. I'd just try it if you think you might like it, then you can let us know.

Another option is CreativeLive, and its about the same price. Lindsay Adler's courses are pretty good (they are available on CreativeLive).

Hi Troy,

Welcome to DPReview. With all certainty I can confirm that Karl Taylor offers some of the best online courses for photographers. Having personally invested in a number of his courses before transitioning to a full time landscape photographer his take on commercial photography including product and portrait lighting is unmistakably one of the most straight forward and easiest to grasp. Alternatively you can also check out the courses at SLR Lounge which are also quite useful.
Or can anyone recommend a good course, took all the photography 101 courses, ready for the next step, thx.
Hope this helps.
