I am planning to buy a spare battery for my D5600.

Does anyone know which third party battery works with the D5600 and its battery charger?

There are posts which point out that third party batteries which work with earlier D5x00 models do not work with the D5600, hence my question.

Or should I shell out the extra money for the Nikon original battery?

Thanks in advance.

A lot of people seem to swear by 3rd party batteries. I've had a lot of them, and I've concluded from my experience that they are fine for awhile, but later no so much, later they don't hold the charge as well and how long they last in the camera seems to diminish. Now I spend the money on the OEM batteries instead.

No.

I don't have a D5600. I do have four other Nikon DSLRs and I am not afraid of so-called third party batteries. Yes they may not last as long as Nikon-badged batteries (which are all also third party since Nikon does not manufacture batteries) but they are a fraction of the price.

So what if a third party battery has to be replaced sooner? Just buy another one (or three or four). I have found DSTE to be good.

I bought two Wasabi EN EL 14 batteries for my D5500. Work great and seem to last as long as the Nikon and as many shots. I just rotate them when I need to change a battery and sure are nice to have extras. Work well with Nikon charger. I believe the price for 2 was a little over $20. Look just like the Nikon.

I bought two random batteries off amazon without too much thought, they work just fine. but I have to use the provided charger.

Hello there. I am using Wasabi battery that comes with the D5600 that I bought used, the camera's shutter count was only at 266 actuation. I should say it was very low for a camera purchased in April 2017. The owner used it only once, for a family holiday in Taiwan and he found the camera to be a burden.

I thought, why not give this aftermarket battery a try even though I have three Nikon's EN-EL14a.

The Wasabi battery works fine if the charge level is full but whenever the battery level drops by one bar/level, it behaves quite erratically.

Two weeks ago, I was taking photographs of my son. Battery was last charged 2 or 3 weeks before with some light shootings in between, less than 30 exposures? Back to the story, so it was a 20 minutes into the shooting (I even took some shots with Live View), i noticed battery level dropped one bar/level from full charge, so i kept going but some minutes later, the battery level indicator started to blink red. The exposures were less than 50.

I used Nitecore UNK-1 to charge the battery. It finished charging quicker than I anticipated, given the battery level is blinking red in the camera.

At the battery charger screen, I saw it only charged around 400mAh (out of the 1230mAh EN-EL14a battery capacity).

As to whether I will still keep using the Wasabi battery on my D5600, why not?

I'm using a Jupio battery for +2 years now in my D7200...can't tell the difference when shooting with third party or with original.

Using the Nikon charger for both (once even charged a D5600 battery in this charger because a fellow traveler lost his charger).
