So... I got a new-in-box MB-D10 grip for my d300s yesterday. So far, I love the feel (I'm a big guy, so the extra size/weight feels great) and everything seems to be working, however I can't get 8fps. I'm using AA's, have turned off NR, ADL, Long Exposure NR, and auto-iso, and switched RAW to 12-bit. No matter what I do, there is never more than 7fps as an option in the "CL mode shooting speed" setting.

Any other settings I should be changing or playing around with? I've looked around all over the place and can't seem to find an answer.

Thanks!

(I feel like someone is going to point out something ridiculously obvious, in which case, I'm sorry)

According to the manual with AA batteries you are getting 7.7 fps. What is your shutter speed?

You need to be in Continuous High mode to give max speed. C Low only shows available speeds UNDER the max rate. 7 is the highest below 8...

Try it without the grip and you will see CL settings similarly only show rates below the max.

These are the setting's in full for "continuous low" if you set the mode dial to continuous low you can choose the frame rate from 1-7 fps. if you want 8fps set the mode dial to CH to get the higher frame rate.

Sadly so, but it happens to everyone from time to time! As others have explained, CL is the "low" speed setting, which you can customise to select a lower FPS if desired. CH will give you the fastest rate available, 8 FPS.

Manual states that fps rate will decrease as battery level drops. It also slows in low (cold) temperatures.

It also mentions that you need to select in the menu when you are using AA batteries, and the type (D11).

Using 14 bit RAW only allows for 2.5fps.

Only drops slightly is auto ISO control is on.

Not sure otherwise.

I almost always shoot in CH. Is there going to be any place that says I’m shooting 8fps or will it automatically adjust?
CH will shoot as fast as the body is able... what ever that may be.. test it by ripping off a series and look at time stamps on how many frames you get in one second

It's been a while... But if I remember correctly, hitting the info button which displays the camera settings on the rear lcd, it would show 8 FPS with the grip attached.

Providing there are no other settings or factors lowering the FPS as listed by the other posters. (whether or not the camera is actually achieving the reported 8 FPS is another question!
