Light weight macro lens with useful focal lenght. You don't has to get so close to the object. Absolute sharp even at f 3.5 (You don't need a 2.8 lens). VR helps a lot while shooting without tripod. The only drawback, VR is a little bit noisy.

I have the same lens. While it doesn't seem to get the love some of the others like the 105mm does, it's quite a nice sharp macro lens. Here are a couple shots taken with it on a D7200.

Really nice photo! I have the 40mm macro, which is really nice, but I can certainly see the advantage of having a bit longer FL so you don't have to be so close to your subject!

that is a cracker shot of the hoverfly!

did you use flash and did you do some sort of pre-focus? autofocus or manual focus?

I have this lens and reckon it is good (I got it for Aust$200 used)

Thanks for your reply, with the 85 mm at the closest focusing distance of 0.286 m/0.9 ft. you get 1:1 life siz. With 40 mmf2.8 you get 1:1 life size at the closest focus distance of 0.163 m/0.53 ft. That what the specs say.

Thanks for your comment,

I didn't use flash, prefocus or manual focus. Just used the lens handheld as any other standard-lens. VR is very useful, lens is not extra expensive and not so heavy.
