Hi!

I'm looking for a new camera. The EOS 77D (18-55 F4-5.6 STM) is available for 5600 NOK and the D80 (18-55 1:3.5-5.6 IS STM) is available for 9600 NOK. This roughly translates into 670 USD and 1150 USD.

Is 80D worth the premium price, or is the cheaper 77D a better value for the money?

Kindly, Lars

The 77D and the 80D are both fine cameras. They both use the same focusing system. The 77D does not have AFMA if that is a concern to you. I have used both but like the control layout of the 80D better. The 77D body is smaller (lighter), the 80D fits my hands better.

A lot depends on what your going to use it for. For a "walk around camera" the 77D would be better.

Here is a pic I shot with both.

Depends on how badly you want the better image buffer, more rugged construction, and weather resistance (which the kit lenses do not have). For most casual shooters, not worth that much money.

Canon 77D has also a lower value lens to reduce the price further. IMHO Canon 80D is way overpriced. But it is a good camera.

Have you a reson you are looking only at Canon?

Hi, thank you!

The canon D77 is available for 20% less than Nikon D5600 in Norway. Since those cameras are equally matched, I thought that perhaps D77 would be a better buy.

Keep in mind that although the EOS 77D follows the "enthusiast body" naming pattern (EOS xxD), it is in some ways like a Digital Rebel. It has a pentamirror-based viewfinder, rather than the more desirable pentaprism-based viewfinder of the EOS 80D.

Either gives you dual control dials, a fully-articulated touch screen, and 45 focus points.

In Romania Canon 77D body costs the same as the Canon D5600 with AF-P 18-55 mm VR (both at 771 € including VAT). So different markets different prices.

Anyway Canon and Nikon are close enough in IQ to not lose your sleep over it. Take care to get a good lens. While for some 18-55 mm is OK I would rather stretch for a 18-135 mm IS (STM or USM versions not the first one).

Good luck with the choice and a lot of fun with the camera!

5600 NOK for 77D is a very good price. Where have you found it?

80D does not worth that money, Fujifilm X-T2 body has almost the same price.

for that difference I'd get the 77D

I'm really surprised there is that much difference in price. It's not really warranted by the difference in capability of the cameras, that's for sure. At less than the D5600 it also sounds good to me!
