does the park, specifically Chappell R. Hayes Memorial Observation Tower stay open long enough to get sunset San Francisco Photos? I want to get a shot across the bay and will be in the area next week.

Boomanbb, what I can find, the park closes at dusk 7 days a week. See https://www.portofoakland.com/port/seaport/middle-harbor/park-features/does the park, specifically Chappell R. Thanks, I had treasure island as my second location. Looking forward to it.Boomanbb, what I can find, the park closes at dusk 7 days a week. Another option for sunset pics of SF is to go to the west side of Treasure Island, about midway across the bay from Oakland. You can get something like this from TI (granted not the best, but you get the idea I hope).

Have a great trip!![]()
Port view park looks great, do you know if you can stay long enough for the lights to come on? I’ll be there 4 days so I can hit a couple spots. I’ve done Coit Tower and the Golden Gate before. If you want to skip the traffic/bridge toll another alternative directly across from the Observation Point is an octagon shaped pier, if you go out on that you can get good pics through the Bay Bridge and a decent portion of the SF Skyline.
On Google Maps search 'Port View Park'. Once you find it on a map, zoom in, look the left of it as you "walk" along the edge of the water. You will see the octagon shaped pier. Usually there are some fishermen around there sometimes, but it provides a killer view.
I haven't been to that observation point but from what I remember it's not all that tall anyway, so you don't gain much as far as height looking into the city.
Edit: if you are coming from out of town and this is a "one chance" kind of thing, then skip my idea and deal with the traffic and head to Treasure Island as the other poster mentioned. More expansive, unobstructed SF skyline views for sure.
if you google 'port view park oakland hours' , it says 5am - 10pm, so I guess that's a yes? I have only been there once, a long time ago, and it wasn't at sunset so I am not sure. Here is an example pic I found on Flickr, gives you some idea of the view. if you see the comments he posted an earlier in the night pic too if you scroll down
Good luck
Good call on Grizzly Peak. OP if you bring a telephoto lens with you, that is a good place to shoot fromI used to go to the Middle Harbor Shoreline park for sunset/night shots of the SF skyline, but last year they started kicking people out before it got dark. I haven't tried to go to that tower, but I doubt it would be open for night shots. I would try to find a phone number for it.
Other options would be Treasure Island and Grizzly Peak Blvd. in the Berkeley hills (if you have a good telephoto). Or even Pier 14 in SF.
