I'm an ameture photographer and almost never use flash but quiet sometime ago i bought the nissin i40 for my Sony a7rii and hadn't used it (or i should say attempt to use it) until yesterday. I can't seem to be able to use it. It won't fire through the camera. I put the flash mode on fill-flash, rear, slow and still nothing. The flash turn on, makes the noises and the light goes from red to green, and fires when i press the light button, but unfortunately not when i press the shutter button. There is no mould or any damage, as far as i can see on the flash connector pins on on the camera's flash mount. No idea, if the problem is with the camera or the flash or if I'm more of a noob with flash than i realise haha...please help

The standard response to flash problems with Sony cameras is to turn off Electronic First Curtain Shutter or silent mode if either of them are set then try again.

Confirm you are Not in silent shutter mode I think it’s called.

Be sure batteries are correct in flash and they are all the same. Meaning you did not take batteries out of other devices just to be sure they are fresh

if you happened to store AA batteries in the flash for a very long time you don’t have corrosion in the flash

I agree..probably silent shutter enabled. It's too bad Sony doesn't give you a non function message when you shoot flash with silent shutter on.
