Is the Canon S100 still a relevant camera?

Curious if anyone still uses an S100 on a regular basis?

Heck, I still use an S90 fairly often, even though I have a G7X II. Like your S100, it's lighter, smaller, and has a very good lens. I think it's mainly a matter of figuring out what the S100 can't do well and avoiding those situations.

Although my wife's S100 is still chugging along with the dreaded (possible lens failure) serial number, it has been a good "take-it-everywhere" type camera, particularly when traveling. It also has been handy when a bigger camera would be out of place, such as in a dining situation. Also its size is less intimidating to many subjects.

Drawbacks would be the very limited zoom range. I also don't care for it's fixed LCD in bright sun but that's the trade off for its mini size. That size makes it a bit hard to handle so we always use a wrist strap.

IQ wise it can match my SX40/50 close range but zoomed in, no. My wife thinks it's great so I can live with that. :-)

Still love my S110. I'm seeing the used prices spike on these cameras now because we'll never see them again. 1 inch sensors are the rage, but truthfully most of us don't need it. The G15's are in demand for the same reason. 24-120 F.2- 5.6 lens. Manual settings etc.

No. I own one and I never use it. And it's almost too much trouble to try to sell it. Why do I feel this way?

My point and shoot camera is a 330 HS, a wonderful 10x optical zoom camera. You all here have heard me extolling its virtues for years now. I shoot it on P, Vivid, just point and shoot and it always gets the shot. Really, always. The S100? Not so much, incredibly so.

I thought the S100 would be an "upgrade" but it's just the opposite for me. Shooting in raw doesn't bring any benefits, the lens isn't as sharp as my 330 HS (I don't think it has the dreaded "lens error" because it works, zooms in and out just fine, it's just not sharp), trying to treat it like a mini-DSLR doesn't bring any benefits either. All of this is just disappointing to me, I really wanted to like the S100.

Bottom line, I still take my 330 with me as my in-car camera and the S100 sits in a drawer. If I want an "upgrade" in IQ etc and am just going to be walking around (which, quite frankly I rarely do) I'll just carry my D3300/AF-P 18-55.

I have a severely beat up S120 I'm going to try to salvage so I can have a decent 5x zoom to backup my phone.

I use an S110 on a regular basis, in fact I shot a bunch of shots with it yesterday. The S110 is basically an S100 with the lens issues fixed plus a touchscreen. If yours has a good lens--see my comments at https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/61779863--then I see no reason not to use and enjoy it, at least in preference to anything that does not shoot raw, does not have a zoom lens, and/or has a really slow zoom lens.

I still use my S95 for snapshoot and travelling. I never take my DSLR or even my EOS M when travelling.

The 1/1.7" sensor cameras are becoming a rather rare and precious commodity if anything. Look at the Casio forum where there is a resurgence in activity while people rush to get these cameras while they can as they are the only one ones of the type available at present and not for long.

I use my S120 as a backup camera on trips or when I just want to travel as light as possible. Still takes excellent pics.

I have a S90 that I would be lucky to use once a year now since using the G7x/G5x. It is superior to the S7/7 plus Samsung/Apple phones we have in detail, noise and of course ability to zoom. It is very sluggish however and the files do need some work to look great that smartphone processing can do instantly.

With all these multi lens smartphones coming out, even if they remain softer/noisier, I wouldn't bother with the S90 or similar. I should probably find someone to give it to like an under privileged youth. Somehow even those people seem to have the latest and greatest cell phones and would likewise avoid using it as I have.

I still use mine. I've got some nice pictures with it over the years as it's pocketable, and so it's the one I carry with me the most.

Overall, I've had the most use out it as a video camera for filming craft tutorials as it is light and fits on the overhead extension arm I have. I've recently switched using my phone, but like to know I have the S100 as a backup.

Nowadays I tend to use it as a fun camera for experimenting with, as I don't really mind what happens to it :-)

Here's one I took yesterday - I was comparing the Nikon D5300, the Coolpix B700 and the Canon and interestingly it was the Canon which got the most accurate colour, and the nicest picture overall though I was only using them all on automatic.

This is one I got because I happened to have the camera with me:

I'll upgrade it at some point when the budget allows, but given my skill level it's ok for now.

edited to add: I really like the fact it can shoot silently too.
