Jacques,
You disappoint me. We have met before.
Let me refresh your memory, it was May 2001:
http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1005&message=1129305
It was valid than and my name was Janusz, it is valid now and my name is Janusz.

You can cry foul as you seem to do on most of such occasions (critique of your work), you can hide behind your friends (lucky you have them).
You spoke trough your pictures – I did reply.
The rest is gas…..
Janusz

PS Just come back from the doctor, my knee is getting better, thanks.

Hi Janusz,

In case you and the earlier Janusz are the same, then I think I made a mistake about SongMi.

The earlier Janusz, develloped from a nice person onto one realy picky and then disapeared from the forum. You seem to be a little bit picky too, but reading about stummic problems, having a bad knee, well you might have been changed a bit by having some of these kind of ailments, which make people a bit sulky. Well in that case I do wish your health will improve.

In case you just think it's fine to be picky, well so let it be.

And BTW I don't think it's a good idea to analyse a candid in a way you would look at a posed portrait.

Well, I guess I'm coming into the middle of something I know nothing about.
So.. just on the picture...

I like this one quite a bit. It's very powerful. I wish it had the full treetop on the left and could do without the half guy on the left edge.

I'm not sure if another shot would have been better though as I really like the scale of the people and picture so maybe it' snot possible to get that treetop without losing too much in the feeling of the photo.

One of the other comments metioned that it was technically not a good photo and I certainly know what he/she was saying... but...

You have to be careful to remember that technique must serve intent. Yes, yes I know the sky is washed out, etc... but I don't know if I would have liked it as much if it was an "ideal" exposure. I don't know that it would have been as powerful for me.

thanks,
savagemike

Hi savagemikel,

You did see what I like in this one and be sure I don't give verry much about the rules of the technics of making good photographs.

Many of these so called rules are about making fine photographs of items, one needs to have to be printed in a brochure, for making the dullest kind of studio portraits etcetera. For me photographs are about filling the frame in a, well at least for myself, interesting way with colors, shapes and interacting subjects. In this one I myself like the almost B/W character, the group of not realy recogniseble persons, but we still can see the sub groups of persons belonging to each other, the little stikes of color on the persons, showing it's a real full color one. Exposing for the sky would have made the people just black silhouettes.

Thank you for your fine comments and yes we have been in some kind of thing and as far as I see it it all have been about applying studio rules to candid photographs,

jacques.
