I keep getting this window overlaid on my screen. I am quite sure that it is a scam. The people asked me to pay $5.00 into their account to permanently delete it and would not accept Paypal. I hung up and my bank details are intact.

This is the overlaid window. Has anyone else received it and if so how do I get rid of it permanently?

Oh and why do you assume it is an Adobe Scam? Did you mean there is someone out there saying they are from Adobe doing this?

So where is the OP. Did you try that phone number? Does anyone think scammers would leave a phone number so authorities could contact or trace them?

Well, that message appears to actually originate from Adobe. Here's the version apparently intended for customers in New Zealand (I'm guessing the phone number at the bottom changes depending on the customer's location):

Adobe Genuine Software Integrity Service

I guess it's possible that some miscreant made a clone of the warning and changed the phone number so that the user called them instead of Adobe (I would be very surprised if the phone call the OP described was with anyone associated with Adobe). How the warning wound up on the OP's computer is anybody's guess.

Didn't think that number would go to Adobe. They probably bounce that all over the planet so to get a location wouldn't be easy. If I were the OP I'd be on the phone to Adobe. They may already know about it.

Of course they would.

There are so many scams out there which flash a message stating there is some form of error on the PC and the screen purports to be from MS (it is not, of course) and to call a number.

When the number is called the person states the PC is infected/has problems and they can fix it. They ask the user to accept download code that give them remote access. Once they have remote access, if the user is lucky, they will demand hundreds of $ to effect (needless) repairs.

If the user is less lucky they will install code to capture personal/financial data in the future or lock the PC and demand ransom.

So yes, scammers leave phone numbers.

My friend who has a PC had his system locked up with that porn scam a few years ago.

I know there are tons of scams. If I collected all the money from all my dead uncles in Africa I'd be a billionaire. Apparently a rich relative of mine died in that terrorist train attack in China. I'm not Chinese but my last name can be mistaken as Chinese. ;-)

This actually be from Adobe, as 1800 875 573 may be their Australian number. A discussion at Adobe here:

However, it still seems suspicious and I wouldn't click on any links or call that number unless really verified from a genuine Adobe site.

Obviously a legit scam. Not surprised. Everyone gets hit. Adobe had my credit card info and about 4 years ago someone tried to order $500 of skin care products. A few months later I got a letter from Adobe saying my credit card info was compromised. Not sure that was related.

Good to have two computers in case that happens so you can figure out what to do. Still don't know if it was a Mac or Windows.

Mac.

Not at all! I had nothing else to call it as the posted document used Adobe header.

Are you running Adobe software? - Yes

Do you only get the pop up when you use Adobe software? - No, It came up whilst writing this response.

Is it genuine? Or did you get a license key from somewhere? - Genuine Box n all with licence numbers

So where is the OP. - New Jersey, U.S.

Did you try that phone number? - Yes. The guy fumbled some information, so I hung up on him. He actually called me back being ever so friendly. I hung up on him again.

Does anyone think scammers would leave a phone number so authorities could contact or trace them? - I have passed all information on to the Australian Government ACCC Scam Watch department.

The rogue window just appeared over the top of your message as I was reading it. I am amazed that no-one else has heard of this issue. I can drag the window all but off the screen, but cannot delete or trash it and it just keeps coming back on top of all other windows.
