How to get Classic Chrome and other simulations on Sony

After switching to Sony, the only film simulation I was missing was classic chrome.

I discovered a lightroom plugin that gives you this at a cost through https://www.gavingough.com/store/kodachrome which helps for Lightroom, but I inadvertantly discovered that the custom Fujifilm presets built for the X-T1 in Capture One actually work with Sony and are fairly decent.

I didn't create the presets, they came from this thread. You can download the presets from this thread.

To import the presets, use this information

Once you are done, they will appear under fujifilm like this

Here are some samples, but obviously the overall look is preference so if you don't like chrome, this isn't a thread for you:

This is the default Sony Standard Profile

This is the Fuji Chrome Version

This is Acros Red incase you are interested

This is the Gavin Gough Kodachrome 25 preset on the same image in lightroom

And the Gavin Gough Kodachrome 64 preset on the same image in lightroom

Interesting, will be watching your posts about your transition. In particular, colour replication.

Any comments on getting colour profiles to match the film sims using LR, assuming you've been trying that is? Other than those Kodachrome presets (which I have similar of) are you aware of any other Fuji film sim presets that closely match? I'm particularly keen on retaining a preset that matches Classic Chrome, Astia and Acros.

How's the A7iii treating you? Got some nice glass paired I see.

You might recall me from other 'forums' but I've been looking to compliment / replace my Fuji kit with A7iii + 16-35 f4, 28 f2, 55 1.8, 85 1.8 and an astro lens. I was waiting see what the XT3 would bring (for my needs) but it's possibly a slight step down from the XT2 as I shoot very low light (high ISO) and have slight tremor in hands (IBIS). I love the form factor though of the XT series.

Rambling now.

Pretty cool!

You can also use the free version of Google's Nik Efex suite (may have to search a bit to find the download link). It includes Analog Efex, which provides color film simulations, and Silver Efex, which provides B/W simulations and other (IMO, very good) B/W processing options.

The Kodachrome preset isn't the same as Fujifilm's classic chrome. I find you have to desaturate the blue by about -30, reduce the hue on blue by -15 and luminance up by 5 to get a similar tone but it's not quite there. The version in Capture One is definitely a lot better.

A7 has been good so far although I seem to have already misplaced my battery door whilst using the grip which is an annoyance. I normally put it in the grip but for some obscure reason I can't find it anywhere.

The camera and lenses are awesome though. I have the 35f2.8 as my compact carry around and that seems to work well. Still got some glass to come but I have to get rid of my current gear first.

I know you’re talking about RAW, but try this for JPG in camera

“Clear” jpg setting

Saturation +2

Contrast +1

Sharpness -2

Adjust auto white balance to A2, M1

If you go to the folder where C1 stores the ICC profiles, you will notice that the files all start with the camera name. If you rename the Fuji profiles (make copies first) to YOUR CAMERA NAME, then it will show up automatically under your camera profile.

The beauty of this is that you don't even have to apply the profiles. Just hovering the cursor over the profile name will show immediate result.

Or jpg out of camera, simply increase contrast, sharpen slightly, push the blacks and dark midtones... or variations thereof ; - )

I can't remember exactly where I got them, but many years ago I found a series of free scripts for Paint Shop Pro - I think they work on Photoshop or PSP - I've kept them and had them ever since on newer versions of PSP. They included hundreds of film scripts from many different brancs, including Fuji Astia, Provia, Velvia, Classic Chrome, etc. Anyone interested might try Googling around for those if you're a Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro user as another option to consider.

The ones for Capture One do the same (which I included a link) and it's free for Sony users.

Yep - those look good! Just figured I'd add in other options as well, in case anyone wasn't using Capture One and still wanted some film sims.

Yes the C1 version is the most pleasing of those you posted here, to my eye / taste anyway.

I'm super keen to find a set of LR presets that at least closely replicate the film sims, as I don't use C1.

Good to hear you're liking the gear!

I'm in the same boat. Will try find the right replica if I can or I may convert to TIF with C1 and import them into Lightroom when I am done. It's not an ideal solution but it will work.

This is based on an existing one developed for an X-T1 that I converted to an A7iii

It's not perfect, but it's fairly close but its free and in lightroom :)

Great thanks, downloaded and tried it, looks quite decent actually! (I only have a few DP Review sample files to try with). That 85 Batis lens looks disgustingly sharp by the way :)

The Batis is amazing and not much larger than a 56 f/1.2. The Sony 85 f/1.8 is apparently just as good (slightly smaller) but it's almost impossible to get them anyway due to the demand on the A7iii which obviously has a lot of people buying them.

I don't have enough test shots to test it properly and see if the colours are good, hopefully I will know soon.

Yes there is a bit of demand (also for the Tamrom) it seems, and alos supply obviously has been an issue too. Wait period to get hands on one here (Bris) is like xmas! Pretty average.

Both the 135 ART for Sony and 28-75 are hard to find. I got lucky and found them both in a store together despite being or if stock everywhere . Also been pretty lucky, my A7iii I got without waiting because I walked into a store that had just started stocking Sony and they had one arrive on the day I walked in.
