Two camera bodies: same or different?

Two camera bodies: same or different?

With the D5/D850/D500 I finally get uniformity with the controls from Nikon. I also can use the same EN-EL15 batteries and charger and all take SD cards so I can use the card reader in my laptops and netbooks.

That said, I value and have held onto my D750 (uses EN-EL15 battery type and SD cards) as its 24MP file size is often quite convenient and it works well with my FX lenses.

My D850 and a D5 can use the same battery, the EN-EL18, and both can use XQD cards which is quite convenient.

So I place more emphasis on minimizing battery types and memory card types that I need to carry along with chargers and readers.

100% Agreed! My last shoot, a big headache was: My D4 (Main) took XQD and CF cards and used an EN-EL18 battery and it's own charger. My D750 (2nd Main) took SD cards and an EN-EL15 battery and it's own charger. My D2X (backup) took an EN-EL4 battery and it's own charger, CF cards. And my video camera used an EN-EL14 battery and it's own charger, and SD cards! So 3 types of memory cards, 4 different batteries and chargers! I decided that as soon as I have money and time, I will get another D4 or D4s or DF to minimize the number of chargers!

I am soon to go on a driving vacation from the pacific northwest to southern arizona, with a 4 day stay in Death Valley included. I will have the opportunity for landscapes, BIF at a couple of refuges, people shots, wildlife, close-ups of plants and bugs and such.

So for that diversity I will be taking the D4, D810 and D500. And a bunch of lenses. It does not worry me that the controls are a bit different on the bodies. I am pretty experienced with each body and it does not take too long to get into the groove when using a particular body. Will likely come back with 3,000 to 6,000 images. The D4 and D500 can really add up when shooting bursts of wildlife. The D810 will likely only get a few hundred actuations, but that is fine doing landscapes.

So, three different bodies. No problem.
