Mine is back on sale in Union NJ, in-store only, $899. (serial # 0990986). Remember, mine is already registered with Sony, on 8-3-18, and I have original receipt showing the sale date 7-30-18 for anyone who buys it. Not a mark on it when I returned it.

Personally, I prefer to purchase any sort of electronic item (camera, computer, etc.) brand-new rather than to take chances on someone's returned item being sold again by the store as "open box." True, in this particular case we know a little of the camera's history, but in most situations the would-be buyer really does not have any indication as to why the item was returned or what, if anything, might be wrong with it.

Even if I had to wait a while for the product to become available in stock I'd rather pay full price for an item fresh out of a new, unopened box than to try and save a few bucks by picking up something that had already been used, even if only for a brief time. There are always reasons for returns....

I buy used, open box, whatever, as long as there is a return, 14 or 30 days. Best Buy gives you 14 days new or open box. B&H gives 30 days, new or used. I buy on eBay if returns accepted.

You can test the heck out of any used item as soon as you get it. Most things today work or they don't.

Find an rx100m3, used, low price due to scuffed up lcd (which is the factory film which can be removed, replaced with glass protector), returns accepted.

And, you can, and I say should, buy an extended accidental handling warranty, from Best Buy, on-line, .... they are MMM, miniaturized, mobile, moving parts.
