Amazon is sending me a replacement unit, IF it's EVF diopter stays put, It's a definite keeper.

Thanks to everyone for their help, and patience with my hand wringing.

Mina and I met at B&H today. (sony awb had trouble with mixed lighting in the store)

She is as much of a delight as you can imagine from all her enthusiastic and kind words here.

We messed with two rx100m6's, 1 at the Sony Kiosk behind us, and then 1 at the sales counter. Both EVF diopter levers stayed put, what a shot of enthusiasm I had.

The demo settings were all screwed up, good thing I studied the heck out of it.

Mina put her memory card in their sales demo, took shots in the store, then I did the same,

Tick Tock, that's the diner's name, 1 long block away, nice lunch, then Mina was off to the hotel and an evening dinner cruise around Manhattan. She has her rx100m3 and RX10m4 with her, what a great pair for that.

Beautiful weather this afternoon, flash flood warnings here now, lets hope not in NYC 26 miles away.

Thanks Elliott for taking the time to meet and show me around B&H and help with setting up my camera. I truly enjoyed the photography class and friendship. Also glad you decided to keep your new camera :-)
The dinner cruise was great and tomorrow a tour of New York City. Now that I’ve tweeked the cam settings, I’m ready for it.

Sincerely,

Mina

I cannot wait for LR to catch up. I have taken a few photos but will wait awhile.

It looks like you and Mina had fun at the store.

Aloha,

Elliott,

Many thanks for all of your insight, in depth testing, and comprehensive suggestions for My Menu, FN, and other camera settings is very much appreciated. Looking forward to learning much from you, and your future posts.

After all this, being recently familiar, messing with both m6 demos at B&H, then just a few of Mina's m3 settings for focus area and metering area, even the B&H salesman was giving me the, "you sure know your shi.... about these" look. Felt good. I flew thru that crazy menu.

When you go to check a demo, various people, customers and salespeople have messed with settings, you might walk away shaking your head, and getting poor results. I tested my Oly at one of the last 'real' camera stores, and the salesman told me he knew all about it, and the Oly rep had just left, having taught him even more. I took shots with my rx100m1, shots with the Stylus 1, got home, horrible, I returned the camera. DPR and IR had not reviewed the Stylus 1. It's teatures are amazing, I wanted it to be good. Later, I found article with samples from Robin Wong, terrific results, so I bought another one. RTFM, what bs, default settings out of the box, the Jpeg quality was N, even though it had both F and XF. Shorter but illogical menu, I had more trouble with it than Sony m1,3 menus.

As I said, seems disrespectful to beat m6, such a magnificent machine up like I did,

but I always want to share what I figure out, to help people get more out of theirs. I am well aware of the resistance to RTFM, but that leaves us at the mercy of Sony's Giant Menu, and Manual.

Starting with the first VCR's, intelligent people could not set the clock, therefore they were worthless.

I like to beat the machine, not let it beat me, and, I want to know all about it's myriad features, then share it,

Waiting for those sunset cruise shots.

Glad the weather held for you, we had flash floods here, 26 miles southwest of NYC, I was worried for you.

Just be careful of my occasional wrong posts. I got the AEL with Shutter wrong in the setup thread.

Hi:

Glad to hear you are happy with the rx100m6 purchase. mine arrived two days back and I've gone through all your settings info.

I do have an annoying situation which I can't seem to find an answer through the manual or other posts. I have a square bracket ( two lines, almost a TV shape) that appears on both the viewfinder and EV. No matter what I do with the display menu ( grid lines, etc ) I cannot get rid of these brackets. Is there some setting I performed that caused this to be permanently displayed, regardless of which mode I'm in?

I don't understand the 'two lines' of your description. Can you take a photo of it with another camera, even a cell phone would do, and post it?

Check the setting on menu one, page 5 for phase detect area. If it is set to "On" you see the two brackets I think you are describing.
