Hey guys!

After a few days of research here and there, I have decided that I like the Canon M50 more overall, but I am not sure if the video quality of Lumix G7 would be better. Are they at least comparable?

I want to spend up to $700 and need it mainly for video, sit and record with basic lighting, outdoors, music performances, some vlogs and some occasional stills as well.

Only 1080, I don't need 4K. Don't need audio from the camera because I record from another source.

What's your advice guys? I like more the design of the M50 as well.

Please help!

If you need to do video handheld, get something with IBIS. So GX85 or G85 on Panasonic side. Not only will the lenses with optical stabilization get the boost of Dual IS, any and all unstabilised primes will effectively be stabilised on a camera like that. But if you only plan to shoot video from a tripod, it doesn't matter.

The only thing Canon would have going for it is its DPAF focusing which works well in video. But I'm not sure if M50 actually uses that in video, you'd have to double check.

I use the older Canon M5 for stills, not sure about M50 video but it should be comparable to the latest 4K (remember to budget for lens, important)

Thanks! If I decide to buy the M50 I'll pick it up with the kit lens 15-45mm since I am newbie

Question is if you want to future-proof your video capability by having ability to capture good 4K video. In that case, read the M50 review in the reviews section on this site.

You may not need it for your current projects, but 4K video has nice advantages like being able to crop, pan and stabilize your footage in post-processing and still having enough resolution to put out a great 1080p.
