How good is the kit lens on the X-T100

I am new to Fuji and am seriously thinking about buying the X-T100 with kit lens. But only if the kit lens is up to the task of producing quality images from the camera. I really like the fact that the kit lens is 22.5mm wide vs the standard 2mm wide on most kit lenses. Also, how is the kit lens at close up focusing for flowers with bokeh, for example?

Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Den

The XC15-45 produced fantastic images on my X-E3 and I would have kept it if it didn't have the PZ feature. As far as bokeh goes, hey, it's got a 3.5 aperture which hinders it somewhat.

BTW - there are several reviews that will describe the performance for you if you Do a Search!

Camera and lens are fantastic, the only limitation this camera has you as a photographer. In my case I do fine the electronic zoom a little tedious, but that's me, it doesnt distract from how fabulous this camera is, and lens!

I've been using it on my xt20 and have been pleasantly surprised by how good it is. I wanted it for the extra wide angle it has. Probably not quite as good as my 18-55 but indistinguishable on prints on 17x20 paper. Perhaps most impressive about it so far is that it is consistent with no real weak spots.

I literally just got mine on Saturday, and have had time only to take a few immediately-to-be-discarded snaps in the kitchen in low light.

I'm going to do a proper sample-quality test (proper for me) in the next day or so, but a quick observation of focus speed on an X-T 1 and chimping on its screen shows rapid focusing, decent corner acuity at the wide and good acuity on the long end, and sharp centers (at max aperture -- couldn't really stop down under the crappy lighting conditions.)

I'm putting together a hiking/travelling kit, which will ultimately be an X-E3 or possibly an X-T 20 with this lens, the XC 50-230, and for now, my XF 27mm for a prime, at some point to be updated to the XF 23 f2. So far, this seems like a fine addition to that kit.

This site has a 15-45 sample gallery.

I got mine without because I would never use it but I did try it out in the local store and the image quality looks good for up close shots that I fooled around with while I was there. If you don’t mind a cheaper feel and the electronic zoom ring function then it’s not a bad deal to get it with the body at 100$ more. I personally just wouldn’t use it much so it would be like 100$ collecting dust for me. But still a decent deal nonetheless.

It is slow and it is plastic

It is slow and it is plastic
Yes it is plastic, on the outside - but the optics are surprisingly good. It's a bit of a pain to use on bodies whose firmware isn't optimised for it though (it fully retracts if you enter playback mode, which takes an age and it won't show an image until it's fully home - on exiting, it then needs to re-extend and only does so to the 15mm setting, even if had it zoomed elsewhere before. Also, it doesn't show any zoom scale [as it's an out-in-out zoom, it's hard to tell by looking at it!].) All those shortcomings are fixed on models which have the appropriate firmware, such as the X-T100, X-T20, X-E3 and the X-A5 and X-A20 (probably the X-A3 and X-A10 too but I'd have to look it up).

For the extra $100 it's a steal, happy with mine.

Can you tell what the focal length is with the right firmware?

Not exactly, sadly, but it's a bit better in that a little horizontal bar scale pops up (just W at one end, T at the other) so you have a better idea than none at all!! Also, the lens stays put if you go into playback, and whenever you turn off the camera, it remembers the zoom value it was last used at.

My rule with fuji is that you always buy kit lenses because you can then sell them usually for 2x more than the difference without kit lens, hence making some money...

It may help you to select the best lens

When we compare the Fuji 16 to 50 mm lens versus The 15 to 45 MM lens, the 15 to 45 MM lens is able to give you a bit cleaner images at wider end (15mm). At the same time the 16 to 50 mm lens is bit more sharp at the tele-end, that is at 50 mm.
