I have 3 cameras a D50, D7000 and a D7100..... am I correct that none of these are fully compatible with this lens

AF-P DX NIKKOR
70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED

Thank you

Those bodies are not compatible at all. You will not be able to control autofocus or VR.

Hello,

This marvelous lens will work on your D7100, full autofocus, except turning off VR which is the case on any DSLR with this lens.

This is incorrect.

D7100 works very well with this lens. AF works perfectly*. VR also works. The only caveat is that you cannot switch off VR, it is always on.

* AF used to reset when meter goes off on timeout, but that was fixed in firmware for the camera.

Source: I own D7100 and AF-P DX 70-300 VR.

Gene,

Update the D7100 with the latest firmware (Feb 2018). Your lens will work fine on that body. If you have the VR version (like I do), you will not be able to switch off the VR. The new firmware did not provide the Menu VR Switch like the D500 and D7500 bodies already had (it's in the manual for those bodies).

See Thom Hogan's write up on current AF-P lens / body compatibility.

Note that he indicates the D7100, D7200 are "mostly compatible" (after Feb 2018 firmware update).

Don't forget to AF Fine Tune the lens at your most-used FL. A good copy of this lens, when properly AF Fine Tuned to the body, is an excellent value. It is sharp at 300m wide open (f6.3). It has fast, smooth, quiet AF. It is a "feather-weight lens.

fwiw... The FX version would give a physical VR switch, a metal lens mount, f5.6 at 300mm and a little bit better IQ.

Good luck with you new lens. I hope this helps in some way. :)

Good to know. I was not aware of the Feb 2018 firmware update. Turning off VR is important though, for anyone who shoots with a tripod.

Thanks to you all !!!!
