Hi,

Would anyone be able to measure the outside dimensions of the screen on their J4 or J5? Specifically, I'm looking for the measurements that the screen protectors for this camera would be. (I'll take inches or millimeters)

I have a Lumix LX10, and have read that the screen protector for the J4/5 should also work with the LX10, but I haven't been able to confirm this. As there seems to be much more product selection for the Nikon, I thought I'd reach out and ask.

Thanks in advance!

Okay. This photo shows my J5 with the Brotect screen protector. The illuminated part of the screen has the size 63mm x 43mm. The Brotect thingy measures 75mm x 52mm.

So it is oversized. Since it covers both the illuminated and the non-illuminated area, I won't complain.

EDIT: Above I had written 75mm x 52mm. After rereading your post I thought I should better measure the precise size of the Brotect again. With more care I'd now say it's closer to 75mm x 51.5mm.

You'll take fathoms, and you'll like it! ;-)
I'm sure you'll get your measurement soon, but if they're compatible, you might as well also ask if anyone has any best or worst suggestions for the large number or Nikon versions available. There're a lot of happy J5 users here who've probably tried a few of them. ( :

Lol, let's see, 72" in a fathom...…….I'll do the math. I figured if I get an answer from someone in the States it would be inches, and Europe, it would be metric. I'm in Canada, so pretty comfortable with both.

I tried an "economical" option for the LX10 screen protector, but wasn't very happy with the quality. There are other options available, but far more costly. The J5 however, has several well reviewed options at a better price point, which is why I'm looking for a little help from the Nikon forum area.

Cheers

The J5 (and the V3) has a 3'' screen, just as the Lumix LX10 (LX15 in some countries). I was too lazy to measure, just looked it up in the dpreview database.

I am a satisfied customer of the Brotect screen protector (recommended in this forum by yatakk). The link shows the product for the LX15/10, costs (GBP 2.09) are identical for the version advertised for the J5, so I'll just assume it's the same product.

Thanks Stefan. Many cameras have a 3" screen, but unfortunately that rarely translates into having the same overall dimensions for the screen. This is due to a slight variation in screen aspect ratios, as well as how much real estate the LCD "border" area projects past the actual viewable area of the display.

Case in point, my Canon 77D and previous Canon SL1 both also have a 3" screen, and neither one being compatible with each other, or the LX10.

I noticed that there are a few screen protectors on some of the international websites that I've visited that list products as being usable on the LX10/15 as well as the J4/J5, but there is no such information for any of the protectors readily available in my area. Thus the question.

For what it's worth, the LX10/15 has a screen that measures about 51.5mm (2.03") X 75mm (2.95") Anything slightly less would be okay, anything larger wouldn't fit.

The one I bought was purported to be for Canon DSLRs with 3"screens. What I discovered is, it is slightly mis-sized for a J5. It's still usable, but horizontally, it cuts off about a millimeter on each side of the visible field of the screen, and the vertical dimension is about 2-3 mm larger than it needs to be to show the whole screen on that dimension.

But I never found one that was supposedly designed for a J4 or J5 screen, so I tried that one.

Excellent Stefan, this is exactly the information I was looking for. The Brotect for the J5 is available in Canada so I'll give it a try the next time I'm placing an order with Amazon.

Thanks again for taking the time to have a look at this for me. Hopefully it will help others as well.

Stefan, what is the 'warning' on your camera screen?

It looks very serious! :-D

No memory card. :-)

So far I haven't encountered any serious issues with my 4 bodies and 7 lenses. Only the occasional (and rare) overheating of the J5 or V3.

I'm so glad it wasn't as bad as it looked to me! ( :

Any overheating problems I've ever had (V1/S1) involved continuous long exposures at 30-90 seconds over a somewhat extended period.
