Hell,

Both on Auto with same resolutions. The Samsung camera images much better.

Will it look better under Manual settings ?

What do you find better about the note 8 photo? I know my wife's iPhone looks better for sharing right away than my g7x1. It auto applies saturation, balancing of Shadows and highlights. The g7x looks dull in comparison. However expand the photo just a tiny bit on the phone and it looks plastic even in good light. The g7x preserves more detail and shoot in darker conditions. The zoom is also more versatile.

I suspect a third party app with raw could preserve some detail or have less destructive settings. That might require a lot more involvement which detracts from the no fuss appeal.

Anyhow, you could try tweaking the various jpeg settings. Cameras ideally could benefit from a smartphone look plugin to build on the advantages of the larger sensor and lens. I doubt Just flipping it to manual will result in an improvement.

Could you post the two photos ?

I also have both Note 8 and G7xII (which I bought last month). I agree that N8 has great IQ for a phone, but that is true in good light. In low light things are getting worse, but still usable. When looking at 100%, images from N8, like from most phones are overprocessed.

N8 doesnt have areal zoom.

But for me, most important thing is that I dont like shooting with phones. I much prefer, real camera, which You can grip. You cant shoot with N8 with one hand.. It doesnt have tilt screen, which allows You to shoot from different positions and angles.

Seriously?

The only real way to find out is to learn to use the camera yourself and see if you think it is worth it which is not going to be something that can be done quickly.

For instant gratification the smartphone will be the winner as that is purely what it it is designed for and little else.

You might want to have your G7XII checked. Mine is much better than my Samsung Galaxy S9. (except for the super slo mo which is fun!)

If you're looking at straight JPG unprocessed and shooting a scene without lighting challenges, you may just prefer the JPG rendering on the Samsung.

But since you didn't post any pics is all academic.

Well, it is not impossible to shoot with N8 with one hand, but there is big risk that I will drop the phone, since N8 is pretty large.

I take pictures with my Note 8 a bunch while biking, having a movable shutter button is mega helpful for that!

At OP, as much as I love my Note 8 I don't really think your argument is gonna persuade anyone unless you post sample photos. I get great pictures from my phone thanks to its incredible auto-HDR but its RAW files leave a lot to be desired unless there are no dark shadows that need to be lifted and obviously you lose the HDR functionality.

Sure use what works best for you but if we're talking purely IQ, I think the G7XII will hold up better once you start trying to make changes to the file

he talks about SOOC

without pixel peeping, Note 8 probably a lot more pleasing to the eyes

If that is your opinion, sell the canon and enjoy your samsung.

Luckily Canon does not produce mobile phones. I have no doubt that many people will find Sony Xperia shoots better pictures than RX100.

Not surprised. The Note 8 has massively more processing power, both in terms of software technology and CPU/GPU. Also, the Note 8 is likely shooting in HDR if you have it on Auto.

So, yup, generally, the typical daylight scenery shots are going to look "better" SoC out of the Note 8. More Instagram and Facebook friendly anyways.

Canon will be struggling if they are into smartphones

just look at Sony, they cannot even make any profits now because the competitions are everywhere
