Godox Disaster

Sounds like you got a bad unit. Sorry. The Godox TT350S I bought for my A7r2, on the other hand, has been great, and much better than the finicky (at best) and unusable (at worst) Sony OEM flash unit I bought -- even after Sony's warranty repair. Based on the information about Flashpoint in this thread, I would return the Godox and try the Flashpoint version of the 350S, if I were you. Bon chance.

Well, I own both Flashpoint TT350S and Sony OEM flash HVL-F32M (the first Sony flash I bought before Flashpoint ones) that both use 2 AA batteries in similar size. I have to say although TT350S works fine but takes much longer time to recharge than HVL-F32M. On A9 HVL-F32M can keep pace at 5fps flashing but not TT350S. TT350S works fine in individual flashing and I used to use it as the master to control V860S II off-shoe until I bought XPro-S transmitter.

If this constitutes a disaster in your world, I hope nothing actually ever goes wrong in it. Return, exchange, and stop being such a drama queen.
Indeed! Like this is the only brand ever to ship a defective product..oh well, such is the internet.

I bought two flashguns last year from Adorama under Flashpoint brand and they work without any issues - V860II-S and TT350-S. Recently also bought their new R2 transmitter XPro-S that works flawlessly. I am very happy in Godox/Flashpoint products and will buy more in future.

Thanks for sharing your experience! When you put on V860II-S on the camera, does the body automatically switch to Flash WB?
Don't know and I can check tonight, on A7r III however. However I use V860II-S mostly off shoe and fire from XPro-S now.
And are the photos come out pretty yellow-ish? I've tried in multiple shooting locations, most photos turn out to be over exposed and yellow-ish WB.
I only shoot in RAW so can adjust temperature easily, so I just leave AWB.
And it could totally be me since I'm new to Sony's flash system.
Personally I found Sony flash system is very reliable and virtually never mis-fired, compared to my Canon flashguns. I only have older generations of Canon flashes - 580 EX II, 430 EX II, 270 EX II, especially on vulnerable PocketWizard systems (I have two Flex-TT5 and one Mini-TT1), that sometime they mis-fired occasionally, but heard Canon RT flashes are excellent.

Really appreciate your detailed reply! I was very surprised on how functional Godox products are at their given price points. I'm using XPro-S with an AD200 and a V860II-S, no misfire as well and the control from XPro-S is intuitive.

See you mentioned that you leave the camera in AWB and do adjustment in post, so can I assume the WB won't automatically change?
Sure AWB and colors will be different between flashing and no flashing. But as long as you shoot in RAW you can adjust WB in software.
Performance aside, color only, the photos I took from Canon w/ 580 EX II and Nikon w/ SB600/800 didn't have this yellow-ish tone, which made me wonder if that's how Sony is or something I didn't get right.
Just quickly tested from V860 II-S on A7r III, TTL.

OOC RAW default, AWB at color temperature 5300 (As Shot in LR), that is cooler than actual temperature which is much yellower

If I select 'Flash' WB in LR, it will change to color temperature 5500 that will be warmer and closer to actual WB that is even warmer.

Now I select WB 'Fluorescent' which will reduce color temperature to 3800, much cooler

I would try the flashpoint version of the v350s based on what people said here. Makes sense considering a Godox basically has no warranty. But they haven’t gotten the flashpoint version at Adorama so I returned the Godox and got another one. This time the charger worked and the battery ejects. Next time I’ll go to Adorama.

Appreciate you took time to do this test for me! Looks like this is how the flash system works with Sony. Will adjust the WB in post then. Thank you again!
