While browsing the web for a lens I came across a used Olympus MCON-P01 Macro Converter for $20 and bought it. I thought that for the price and size it’d be nice addition to keep in the bag when I leave the macro lens at home.

The fringing is quite bad. Read a few reviews which mentioned fringing, but wasn’t expecting it to be this bad. Most of the time I use old manual lenses, so I’m used to fixing CA and fringing, but the fringing I’m getting with the Oly 40-150mm is not always fixable with Camera Raw’s de-fringing tool.

On the bright side, I figured out that the rear diameter of the adapter is the same as 67-58mm step-down filter and 62-67mm step-up ring, so I should be able to adapt it my manual lenses.

Anyhow, since I already have it, any tips on how to get best results with it?

Anybody happy with it?

Thanks

I have it, its cheap so nothing lost really. I use it mostly with the 40/150 set at around 70 mm. I think you might be better off if you buy cheap tubes and use with your manual lenses.

The Panasonic equivalent DMW-GMC1 Macro Conversion Lens works very well. I have been using it successfully for years on my 14-42.

Have you been able to solve the chromatic aberration problem?

I already have manual lenses with good close up and a macro TC and they works fairly well with less chromatic aberration...

My idea was to use the MCON with the E-PM2 as a small walk-around setup, but the AF is not great either. I've been using it with the E-M10 and focus manually.

Though usable, it's baffling that Olympus got away with charging the original price...

Have you tried the electronic extension? I was going to buy one of those when I came across the the MCON.

Thanks
