s30 from Gateway

I ordered an s30 with 128 mb flash card from Gateway last Friday (2/14) for $350, including shipping. I received an email saying they expected it to arrive on 2/26. So far, the order status says,

"Your special configuration is currently awaiting arrival of parts required to build your system."

I noticed the Gateway ad for the S30 a few times yesterday while using Pricegrabber, etc. Today, I read a post stating that the S30 is not listed on the Gateway site and, sure enough, I couldn't find it either. I wonder what happened. I hope we see this camera in a timely fashion.

Alice - Totally in the same boat. I ordered mine on Saturday (2/15) and my estimated arrival date is 2/21. I have the same final order status message too which makes me wonder since the item was suppossed to be already in stock. Maybe they sold out fast and took the item off thier webpage. Will update if anything changes.

I'm usually on the Nikon SLR forum (own a D100) but something told me to jump over to the Canon, to my surprise I saw your posting.

Well, since i ordered the S30 for my brother from Gateway and feel somewhat responsible that you nor my brother have not gotten their cameras, I called Gateway.

And asked why am I and a couple of other customers are getting that message when we look for our status. She looked into it and apologize for the mistake. She believes that there's a problem with their systems. She looked up my order and said that it will most likely ship today or tomorrow. She will call me later today to confirm and to provide me with a tracking (USPostal/UPS) number.

I suggest whomever took my suggestion to order from Gateway, due to the price, to call them directly sometime tonight or tomorrow. I placed my order on 2/14.

Interesting . . . the story I got was that since the response was so overwhelming for the s30, they ran out and will have to fulfill using back order. My new estimated arrival time is now 3/7 after ordering on 2/15. Any other updates from you all? Thanks for the heads up.

I ordered the same on 2/16, I noticed the same message yesterday, called and found out it really meant it was backordered- But it "was in stock" when I placed the order. I also encountered a Gateway rep who really didn't care to assist me in finding out what the status message really meant, so I also wrote a letter to Gateway Complaints in SD. In my opinion, they sold me an out of stock item being advertised as in-stock, add to that the problem with the rep, convinced me to take my business elsewhere.

Later, found the http://www.onestop.com has the S45 for $437.92 including FedEx delivery, so I promptly canceled the Gateway Order and Ordered the S45 which will be delivered tomorrow (Paid another $4 for 2nd Day Air)

I'm glad I did, the S45 seems to be the ticket, and the reviews are outstanding. I had ordered a second battery for the S30 from Beach Audio for $27.65, but it's the same battery for the S45 as well. The 128 MB Flash that initially enticed me to buy from Gateway (plus the $349 price) is probably worth maybe $35, so I don't feel bad. The S45 should provide me years of enjoyment. I ordered a 12x Lexer 256 CF from onestop.

Oh, 5 year extended warranty on the S45 was only $69 ! And if you don't need it, you get 50% of $69 back after the 5 years is up (store credit).

Anyhow, I'm looking forward to the S45- I'm upgrading from a Kodak DC50, so I should be very very happy.

Gateway also sent me a notice last night that they had shipped the S30. And that was after being told yesterday by phone that the S30 was backordered (but they still expected it to arrive 2/26). Needless to say, I am really looking forward to trying the camera out!

I ordered my Canon S30 from Gateway on Sunday Feb. 16. I received the same message as you did shortly thereafter. I e-mailed Gateway on Friday asking when the new ship date will be since they are obviously backordered, and they responded that the camera is still scheduled to be recevied by me around Feb 27. My order was placed before Susan's, but I received no confirmation. Only time will tell.

I wonder if we digital camera buyers are even less patient that film camera buyers. After all, one of the big attractions of digital photography is instant results. I will report when ours arrives, which I think will be soon, since it was supposedly shipped out last Thursday or Friday.

They reassured me everything was fine and I should be getting my camera soon. They suggested I purchase an overpriced Canon S200 instead.

Do not trust Gateway.com. Inaccuracte website and slow, lying staff.

I am really sorry to hear that your order was cancelled by Gateway. According to UPS tracking, our camera will be delivered today. We ordered ours on the 14th so, evidently, our order made the cut. You might want to track deals at techbargains.com. Dell is offering 15% off plus free shipping on all accessories (cameras) today and tomorrow. That would be $425 for the S45. Bhphotovideo.com has the S30 for $370 + $10 for shipping.

My order was cancelled last night by Gateway. They stated they

According to UPS tracking, our camera will be delivered today. We
