...got mine from a local dealer in Germany this morning ;-)!

Coming from Nikon (D3, D4) with some Sony experience (a6500 for video) this is all a bit different to me... ;-)!

Camera is from 12/2017 - seems Sony started early producing these babys ;-)!

EDIT: for the videoguys the min ISOs:

S-LOG2/3 ISO800

Cine1 ISO100,
HLG ISO100,
HLG1 ISO64,
HLG2 ISO100,
HLG3 ISO125

Probably the first one to be in the wild! Congrats on a seemingly awesome camera. I guess you are one of the first guinea pigs to test out the pros and cons of this camera. Still debating on pre-ordering mine in the US.

Congrats! I'd be happy to hear some first impressions from you in the following days.

Congrats! I probably still have to wait until late April mid May. Ugh the wait is killing me but I know it’s gonna be worth it. Enjoy!

One thing I hardly believed is the better AF performance that maybe will be common with other a7/9 cameras: first I took my D4 with the 70-200 2.8 and dimmed the room. For my a7III I only have the 70-300 that is only 4.5-5.6.

Nikon D4 AF is rated to -2EV, a7III AF to -3EV. Surprisingly the Nikon focused a little bit better in the dark.

Then I put my Sigma 50 1.4 Art to the D4 and the APS-C SEL50 1.8 to the a7III (35mm mode, strong vignetting but that´s not the matter here).

Now I made it even darker and performance was NIGHT and DAY!!!

In the D4 viewfinder you could hardly see anything and the AF is ONLY hunting focusing on a book.
The a7III showed a "bright" picture (ok, with much noise but that´s better as preview than seeing nothing) and focused not the fastest but very safe every try I did!

Since I´m doing some weddings with party after the ceremony low light AF is quite important for me. I "guess" the Sony will perform MUCH better here when I get my 70-200GM somewhat later.

Until now I´m quite happy with that camera!!

BTW: the a6500 also does not focus in the same scene. a7III AF performance/sensitivity is much better.

The A7iii is rated -3ev at f2. So if you use the 70-300 at f5.6, for example, you only have 0ev (you loose 3stops). At f1.4 you gain one ev and are -4ev.

many thanks for the heads up! Im also looking into the A7iii because of the same AF coverage/system as a9 but at a reasonable price.

Expect for lowlight how do you like the EVF? Is the resolution ok or do you notice pixels? would you be able to judge focus just from the EVF?

If it´s getting dark you get noise in the EVF. If you want to MF you can put focus magnifier to C1 and peaking to C2 for example. Peaking can simply be switched on and off with C2, no need to go through a popup like with the a6500 before.

Yes I know, so I thought the Nikon (-2EV) at f2.8 and the Sony (-3EV) at ~f4 would be the same. But I missed the spec of the D4 AF. I only find "-2EV" - no information about the referenced F stop.
